Big Bald as well as Max Patch reminds me of the scene in the “Sound of Music” where Julie Andrews sings “The hills are alive with the Sound of Music.” At the top of Big Bald, elevation 5,516 feet, you have a 360 degree view of the surrounding mountains and valleys. Truly a picturesque moment. You are at cloud level, so views will come in and out of sight. My boots got wet as I walked off the trail due to condensation of the grass from clouds passing over. The only way to access Big Bald is via the Appalachian Trail or a side trail from the Wolf Laurel Resort (ski and golf). Worth the hike on a good weather day.
