This is a lovely, HUGE cabin in Maggie Valley. Our group of 10 was very comfortably accommodated with room to spare. Nice views of the valley, close to town, close to Cataloochee -- abslolutely nothing bad to say about the house, itself.
Now, here's the bad part. This cabin is about 1/2 mile off the main road -- at an elevation of 3600' feet. It is a very steep series of switch-backs before you finally turn left onto the gravel road leading to the cabin. IF IT IS WINTER AND IF IT IS SNOWING AND ICING, YOU WILL NEED A 4WD VEHICLE WITH TIRE CHAINS!!!! Every trip up and down the mountain was a white-knuckle affair. The steepness of the road guarantees that whatever thaws during the day re-freezes hard at night. On our last day, the ice going down the road was so bad that I and the father of the family with us went, with two shovels, and basically scraped off the road from our cabin down to the flatter portion of the road. In some places, the ice sheet was over 2 inches thick.
I'm not trying to recommend that you do not stay at this property, because it is a huge, lovely, well-maintained and furnished, and convenient place to stay. I am saying that it is critical to plan ahead and be prepared. You'll be in for a very unpleasant stay if the weather turns nasty and you aren't prepared!
