“Spectacular Lake & Mountain Views”

Don't let first impressions get the best of you. This house grows on you and endears you in just a short while. If you are looking for the lap of luxury in a modern, high-tech setting, click on the next vacation house. If you want a great VALUE-to-amenities ratio this might be your find. The everyday view from the main room's expansive window is magical. You look over a wide expanse of the lake into the endless mountain range. As you sit on the boat-house roof deck, looking across at where Dirty Dancing was filmed, you can imagine Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Gray dancing down the long staircase towards the lake.

The boat-house dock gives you easy access to the water and the use of the house canoe allows for the best sensory lake exploration. We rented a pontoon boat from nearby Lake Lure Tours and did sightseeing of remarkable water-front homes (dock and dine at Larkin's By The Lake to complete the experience).

You'll get used to the overly rustic decor, the steep driveway, the access-way to the basement bedroom, and the bow of the roof-deck flooring. The house was very clean and perfect for a relatively inexpensive stay on a great lake. We missed the house as soon as we were gone.

“Extraordinary Views, Great Location, Exceptional Value”

We strongly recommend the Mark Twain house, & look forward to renting again from this Owner. Why you should rent this house: The photos on vrbo are all accurate; however, they do not capture the beauty of the view, whether from the large deck or from inside through the huge unobstructed picture window. The weekly rental fee is an incredible value for waterfront lake property. The large deck is instantly accessible with one step outside the living room. Because the house is so close down to the lake, the lower deck/ dock is only one flight of stairs from the main level [nearly all the other lakefront houses we saw were much higher up, away from the water, with 2-4 flights of stairs to go down to the water]. The beds in the two main floor bedrooms were comfortable. The main floor had two full bathrooms. The lower deck/ dock had a ladder to get in/out of the water easier [or, you could jump in feet first off the end of the dock]. We enjoyed the comfy recliners in the living room, facing the big window. Ingles [a full size, nice grocery store] was only about 10 minutes away. The tiny towns of Lake Lure & Chimney Rock were less than 5 & 10 minutes away [several mornings I woke early, drove to the town, parked, and jogged along the Lake Lure Beach, by Morse Park, across the Flowering Bridge, & over to front of Chimney Rock State Park]. Chimney Rock State Park is 10 minute drive away. We enjoyed the free outdoor concerts [bluegrass gospel] at The Gathering Place, a small park across from Chimney Rock Park entrance, with the towering Chimney Rock as background to the musicians. Asheville was a scenic 45 minute drive away.

In interests of full disclosure: The house did not have central A/C, but did have a strong window A/C unit, ceiling fans, & a few portable fans. We were there in late June & with hot temp's outside, we were fine inside. The kitchen is not huge, & the countertops weren't granite, but it was fine for cooking multiple meals & stocked just well. No cathedral ceilings. It's a basic cottage on the lake (with awesome views you'll never forget).

If you want the fancy, brand new house with shiny appliances & a big game room, find another house & pay 3 times as much or more. For us, the views, right-on-the-lake water front, & low rental price sold us, & will keep us coming back. Moreover, we found the Owner to be very responsive, polite, & concerned that our stay was a happy one.

“What a view of the mountains get away from daily stress”

This is the place to get away from all daily stress of life .The house very cute my wife said .She a classic woman I know her she wouldn't be caught in hunter cabin at all without a bathroom and running water and a house that isn't clean but the window needs some cleaning. The view is spectacular view of the mountains. It is prime location of looking at Chimney Rock Park Mountains and it's right on main channel of the lake with a deck you could see sunrise and sunset .A lot boats come and go from the main dock .To get a view like this you can't get anywhere else in a 5 star hotel you would be paying lot more just for window view of the water .The house has two bathroom has plenty of hot water. It is a summer vacation cottage so make sure to bring warm clothes. The house has electric heat it does work The house has a stone fire place .The air does get chilly in the mountain at night. The kitchen has all the utensil all the appliance works.I wish the canoe was in the water to use .The canoe was upside down in the boathouse .The house next door had smaller canoe it was really to be use and it was near the shoreline Too heavy for one person to get into the water. The drive way is steep not enough room for a big car to turn around at the bottom of the drive way .The house was easy to find from the main road .The house is fairly close to a Supermarket and close to Chimney Rock Park .Take a drive on the blue ridge highway it will take 1hour 30 min drive to the Smokey Mountain National State Park about 30 to 45 minutes drive to Hendersonville nice shopping downtown about other about 20 to 30 minutes to to Asheville from Hendersonville .Me and my wife enjoy staying here we both had a great time.

“Didn't want to leave”

The ever changing view of the mountains across the peaceful lake are just what the stress MD ordered. The inflatable boat and floats brought back memories of days gone by. Unfortunately, the fish outsmarted my husband. The house is well equipped, clean and comfortable. We found a great "old school" radio station that took us down memory lane. What fun! We hope to go back in the fall to enjoy the changing of the leaves.

Older, rustic lake house, with all the charm. The location must be one of the best on the lake. The deck extends over the lake, providing a spectacular view of the lake and mountains.
