“Windy But Worth It!”
Reviewed 7 January 2013 for a stay in December 2012

Just returned from a very chilled out time at this lovely cottage over the New Year with family and friends. Beautiful decor and furnishings with loving detail at every turn. Kids loved the upstairs crash out pad in the attic whilst the adults got on with the festivities in the lounge downstairs!
Pros :
The whole house layout is brilliant for a large get together.
Decor and attention to detail is spot on.
Garden/Summerhouse and decking area will be a delight if the sun shines
Location is ideal for harbour/forest walks on your doorstep
Lovely big kitchen.

Cons :
Wind noise in the attic rooms which will keep you awake if you are a light sleeper.
A few basic items need adding, i.e. table place mats to protect the lovely kitchen table, clothes dryer and sieve to make it perfect!

Thanks for a lovely stay!

Management Response
8 Jan 2013
Thank you for your review - we're glad you enjoyed your stay!

We were abroad over Christmas and New Year so we're not aware if the winds during your stay were partucularly bad - we've not had any other guests mention wind noise. The trade-off for the sea views is that the house is exposed to the elements - including the wind - so unfortunately there isn't much we can do about it. The slate roof is insulated with 150mm of kingspan insulation to keep it cosy and this should also reduce any noise as much as possible.

We are planning a pulley in the utility area which will cover the clothes drying in the winter months when the lines in the garden and summer house aren't much use!

We will take on board your comments regarding the place mats. There was a sieve so we will also check if that needs replaced!

Thanks again for your feedback!

my family of four and my sisters family of four stayed at the millie for a week at the end of oct .the house has everything you need for a large group and some things you dont, but that you still enjoyed using e.g. sauna, jacuzzi complete with telly etc.
we know the area very well,so knew what to expect, great for walking, lots of golf courses and plenty of areas of interest in the surrounding countryside.
the house coped well with eight people with plenty of space and in the summer it would be great to use the rear decked area for a bbq,but in oct it was a little cold for that.
at first i thought that only having one main telly area might be a problem with us having four children with us but it wasnt,as a lot of the time we would sit in the living room surrounding the woodburner not even thinking about the tv.
if you dont want to cook you can get fantastic fish or steaks with proper chips just round the corner at the harbour bar.
the quality of the finishings etc.in the house is superb, the kitchen has everything you need to cater for large groups.we would recommend this dwelling to any large group except for people with mobility problems as the stairs might be a problem.
but overall the house is excellent.

“Absolutly Perfect - a new twist on Burghead!”
Reviewed 26 June 2012 for a stay in June 2012

What a truly beautiful cottage with absolutely everything we needed to make our stay perfect.

Having stayed in Burghead every year for 15+ years my mother suggested that we, my partner, our French Bulldog and me, join her on a week-long escape to Scotland. Having visited the village in the past, about 3 years ago and as a child, I was hesitant to go and following a brief online search saw that the majority of the holiday rental properties in the area seemed to be lacking the kind of luxury we have got used to both at home and on holidays away. As is the case for all of us free time is extremely precious and so time away from the office has to be spent wisely.

However my mother suggested a new cottage which she had yet to stay in and sent us the details of The Mille which online looked too good to be true. Everything was beautifully presented with lots of unexpected character and extras not normally available in a rental property in this price range in this location. The opportunity to walk on the beach only a short stroll from the cottage, sit in the sauna and then soak in the Jacuzzi whilst watching TV was too good to turn down and so a booking was promptly made and fingers crossed it was as good as portrayed.

Thankfully The Millie did not disappoint. In fact we were blown away!

The cottage itself is a simple stone house typical of the area in the nicest part of the village with a bit more outside space than is the norm. Once inside it was obvious this place had been given a major refit with stylish touches such as the seascape pattern on the mugs in the kitchen being the same as the pattern etched glass in the window of the large walk-in ‘rain’ shower / Jacuzzi room which was again reproduced on the back wall of the attic room and finally on the cushions on the sofa/daybed. This and many other details really made the place feel loved and homely. The red highlights in the kitchen showed off the owner Ruth’s flair for design and the relaxing blue sitting room with its soft, cosy sofa and chairs, beautifully crafted wooden side table and views down to the beach and tumbling sea were perfect for planning the day ahead or chilling out in the evening.

My mother quickly took up residence in the huge attic room window seat and wistfully looked out to sea, glass of wine in one hand and box of chocolates in the other. Wi-Fi was fast and worked well so when the glass of wine was finally put down her iPad was fired up and various websites sprang into action without a moment’s hesitation. We brought along our own Apple TV connection box and so enjoyed a few of the latest films on the cottage’s large flat screen TV however there were ample DVD’s left for us to enjoy and the digital TV box worked well.

Our Frenchie loved the garden with its lush grass and useful decked area. He also appreciated the large dog bed left at the property along with the numerous doggy toys and under floor heating which kept his belly warm at night! The wooden garden house beach hut is a really pretty addition and ensured we felt we were by the sea at all times.

Finally the complimentary drinks voucher left by Ruth to be redeemed at The Bothy and the welcome basket of goodies was a kind gesture and another example of how everything to make your stay as perfect as possible has been thought about. I can recommend the hot chocolate with all the trimmings!

As you can tell we had an absolutely wonderful seven days at The Millie. It has put a new twist on Burghead bringing this quite Scottish village into the luxury rental market without breaking the bank. My mother is already planning her next visit and we will be back next summer and hopefully many more to come!

“FANTASTIC-IF YOU HOLIDAY IN SCOTLAND THAT'S THE PLACE TO GO!”

We had a fantastic week at The Millie. A big thanks to Ruth for the lovely wine and bread on arrival. The house is a great size, very clean and tidy and has been cleverly designed throughout to mix a sense of period with stylish modern convenience. The views over the sea and beaches are lovely. We enjoyed the large deck, garden, BBQ and the lovely sauna . The jaccuzzi with TV was a big hit.. It was also lovely to chill out in front of the wood burner at night.

The rest of the country had rain all week while we enjoyed glorious sunshine and had a lot of fun fishing and walking our 6 month puppy on the beach even managing a picnic.

There is plenty to do in the area and places to visit (Elgin, Forres etc.) but within yards of the house there are shops, a coffee shop and a couple of pubs. I would highly recommend the Harbour Bar which has very friendly owners and staff. The food is excellent. They also have pool and darts and dogs are not only welcome but given biscuits and water.

Thank you to all the people whom we met on holiday who were so friendly and made our stay memorable. I would highly recommend booking this property to anyone and have done to family, friends & colleagues.
