Owner description: Talk a Walk on the Wild Side at Carolina Raptor Center What will you find on your walk around the 3/4 mile Raptor Trail? Over 30 species of raptors and other birds of prey are featured on this walk on the wild side. Owls and Vultures. Hawks and Eagles. Falcons, Corvids and other species that just don't fall into any of these categories. Have you seen a Bald Eagle up close? The Raptor Trail features a nesting pair of Bald Eagles who live out back in the Eagle Aviary. Our Spectacled Owl just can't wait to tell you what she thinks about living here at CRC, but you might have to listen carefully to what she has to say - she's a shy one. Did you know that Vultures and Corvids are some of the smartest birds around. No bird brains here! Lots of human mythology surrounds both of these families of avian brainiacs. Crows have been known to drop nuts into crosswalks so that cars can crack them and then wait for the light to change and retrieve the goodies! Behind the scenes at CRC is our Raptor Hospital, where we see approximately 900 raptor patients a year (please no songbirds or possums!). If you can't make our behind the scenes tour, don't worry, the exhibit "A Day in the Life of a Raptor Hospital" will show you what goes on there - day and night.

We have been in the past and thought we would take another trip earlier this year. Signage locating facility is poor. Has really declined the last few years in appearance and labeling of cages. Expensive for the limited amount of time you will spend

Hi Raptor Friends:
We are about to break ground on our new Raptor Trail and Environmental Education Center at Latta Plantation Nature Preserve. We are very excited about this new facility, and our attention has certainly been divided over the past year. That said, we will certainly take your advice and spruce up a few things on our existing campus. Thanks for bringing it to our attention!

This nature preserve is well designed for couples and families. Many of the birds are rescued and recuperating or are permanent residents. Take your time and enjoy the hands on discovery of nearly 60 bird varieties. You may hear ospreys calling or Ravens. All the birds are housed in enclosures that provide visitors a good view. Local businesses donate some of the covered buildings others are created as Eagle Scout activities. If you're lucky you might spot a meandering black snake crossing the trail. This site is out of town and well worth the drive. Might not be your first choice on a rainy day - plan accordingly

Thanks for the great review. Glad you got to have a conversation with our Ravens! We love it when the birds wake up and feel like interacting with our visitors. Come back again soon. Only 20 minute drive from Uptown Charlotte.

The Vultures painting was the highlight. Staff and volunteers do a great job of explaining detai8ls about the birds. Nicely designed and organized.

This was my first visit here, I loved it. I am a huge Eagle lover along with all of these wonderful creations of God. The staff was excellent, friendly, and involved to make our visit the best ever. Jana, was our guide and did a great job. But I am a little disappointed in her at the end because she promised I could take a Bald Eagle home and it would be ready for me when I left. That didn't happen. FYI: I am just kidding about Jana, she was excellent!

Jayna is a great addition to our staff. She has been a camper and volunteer at the Raptor Center for many years (13!). We love growing Raptor kids! Sorry that you had to leave the Bald Eagles in their enclosure. I guarantee you, the novelty of owning one would wear off quickly; they are pretty high maintenance. :-) Come back and see us soon!
