We had the pleasure of staying at Roho ya Selous in September 2019 - its an amazing tented camp! The accommodation is glamping at its best! That cool air system over the bed works a treat - nights were never uncomfy! The staff are great - the guides are brilliant! Thank you to Mashaka for your expert guiding, driving, knowledge and hospitality. The wildlife is plentiful - there is always something to see - and the terrain in September was dry enough to allow us to travel easily around the national park.
A great place to stay, good location, lovely staff, GREAT food! and the best possible mix of animals/wildlife on your doorstep - highly recommended!

We had the most fantastic stay for our hnoeymoon at Roho ya Selous! Having never been on Safari before we had nothing to compare the experience with but it far surpassed all our expectations. The room was absolutely fantastic and much more luxurious than we could ever have imagined, we loved the outdoor shower (although there was the option of an indoor shower too). The atmosphere and communal areas on the camp were warm and friendly with a real family feel, we loved that even when undercover or indoors you still had great views and felt like you were in the middle of the bush. The staff were all marvelous and a delight to be around, Sabass and his team couldn't do enough for us, a particular highlight was a special honeymoon candlelit meal they perpared for us at the pool. The rest of the food was varied, delicious and plentiful!

We appreciated the variety of the safari experiences, talking advantage of the jeep, river and walking safaris. Our guide Rama was very knowledgable, skilled and good company, he really knew how to handle a jeep! We also had a great mornng on the walking safari with Kivayo where we learnt a loads about wildlife from a different perspective.

Overall we can't fault the experience and loved every minute, we were particularly impressed to hear about the Asilia company values and the kind of conservation and community projects they are implementing, for example sharing the safari experience with local school children.

We would highly recommend a stay at the wonderful Roho ya Selous

Welcome to Paradise was the greeting when we arrived - and it was really true. Fantastic atmosphere, genuinely friendly and caring staff combined with superb accomodation Roho really is a very special place to stay.
Our lodge overlooked the river and at night we could hear hippo and possibly warthog snuffling around. Each lodge has the luxury of an "evening breeze" air conditioning system which was such a luxury given the temperatures and each was very well equipped even including yoga mats and weights!
A particular thanks to Felex, our guide during the stay. His depth of knowledge, ability to spot amazing animals and sense of fun was so appreciated.
Thanks to Diane and all the Asilia team for such a wonderful stay.

At the time of this review, we had experienced 4 asilia camps (sayari, roho, kwihala, jabali) in tanzania, about 19 days in total. So I will draw comparisons to be as helpful as possible. We had a spectacular tent overlooking the lakeside with common sightings of giraffes, baboons and impalas right in front of us. Tent size, comfort and design was perfect. At night, steps away from the bed, it was common to see hippos and giraffes eating and roaming around. We loved it, woke up often to take pictures. I'd say Roho takes the gold for best tent out of the 4 camps given the "in nature" experience. Food was good. Internet works well in the bar area. Staff is excellent and always eager to please. Not only because of the care and service but also because of the smiles and energy and chants and laughters. Diana, the camp manager is awesome. Ask her and you shall receive. She is really on top of things and she has great stories to share over dinner with a great smile (It turns out she is one of the rare, local woman camp managers in Tanzania) Communal dinners at night are quite pleasant and beautifully organized. Our guides Kivuyo and Felix were excellent. Kivuyo led us through a number of walking trips in the bush and I highly recommend the experience. It is a completely different game to be in the bush outside the car with animals, it is quite safe and simply enchanting as the animal behaviors are quite different. You can also see things you can't in the car. We thought the landscape diversity and animal quantity were limited. Bird viewing is spectacular, if you are into birds, it is a heaven. But for us, although we enjoyed the birds, the trips felt like we were going round and round in the same vicinity, with limited animal observation (variety of species, interactions etc). Shooting was allowed in this reserve up until 2015 I believe, so there are very, very few elephants and the reserve is clearly suffering from decades of mass murder of animals. Although the camp, staff etc were flawless, the safari experience was inferior compared to others I listed above. But that is not the camp's fault. Selous has a lot to offer as it is vast. Hopefully in the future, numbers will recover and there will be ways to visit the deeper parts of the park.

We loved Selous and the staff at this camp—it was a truly magical experience. The hospitality and warmth of all the Asilia team coupled with great service and a great location made this an unforgettable experience. Selous is a special park—it has a wild, out of the way feeling and we encountered fewer travelers which is part of its charm. Our guide Rama was incredibly knowledgeable, sharing fascinating tid-bits about the animals and the surrounding bush as well as spotting wildlife invisible to our untrained eyes. The walking safari with our guide Kivuyo gave us a view to the small things you might on the ground and the water safari similarly provided a different experience of observing wildlife—I highly recommend both!

This team went out of their way to make the last evening of our 2 week trip special with celebratory singing and an outdoor dinner on the beach. Couldn’t have been better. A special shout out to Diana, the camp manager, and the drinks team--Jossina, Hassan and Gabriel— for making us feel at home.
