We have just returned from an eight day camping safari experience with Sven and Authentic Tanzania and have had an amazing time. We (my wife and 2 boys,13 and 11) booked through Natural High travel, and on their recommendation we chose Authentic Tanzania for the safari element of our trip to Africa.
Sven Liebchen is owner and senior guide for the company, his wife runs the office. We chose him because he has two children himself and knows how to make sitting in a truck all day fun and entertaining for kids. We also wanted to stay off the beaten track and avoid all other safari trucks in the areas - camping enabled us to be on our own, in a location chosen by Sven, and very close to nature!
We stayed first in Selous at a basic wild camp, but were amazed by the high standards. After a long drive from Dar es Salaam we were met with ice cold flannels and chilled fruit juices! Tents are basic dome tents, two in each, with separate toilet and shower tents. They even heat the water for your evening shower and morning wash! Food was also impressive for such a remote camp, our teenager never went hungry!
Ice cold beers by a campfire on the lake shore watching the sun go down after a great days game viewing and listening to Sven's stories was just perfect!

The standards were raised when we went on to Kimilamatonge camp, Ruaha where they had set up a seasonal camp. Bigger tents, proper beds, en suite shower and loo, all with a view of the dry river bed and a chance of a passing elephant, or more!
Its surprising how easy it is to fall asleep listening to lions singing and leopards calling out in the night!
We never felt even slightly unsafe, even when we had watched two lions snoozing under a baobab 500m from our tent in the afternoon, and then in the morning when Rashidi, one of the guides, showed us their foot marks on the path outside our tent!! Our boys were so excited...

Sven has spent half his life in the Tanzanian bush and his knowledge and enthusiasm is incredible. He just loves what he does and it is infectious - why wait till 0700 to go on a game drive when you see Sven loitering by the truck at 0630, almost bouncing with excitement at what the day might bring...

Myself and my wife were here for our 2 nd anniversary and we did 4 days at selous and 5 nights ruaha .Selous has fallen prey to poaching and wildlife is far and few .But we could off road there and some of the bird sightings we had there was fantabulous ! We flew to Ruaha and Sven the director of the company picked us up and we reached our campsite .The camp is very basic and has a shower and a toilet and a wash basin . it is not luxury by any means and is on the rougher side . The location of the camp is on the kilimatonge Hill and that is the best part .Our first night we first heard the mating call of a leopard and then two huge male Lions let out their territorial roars all night .As a fitting climax hyenas laughed around our tents and let some typical scary hoops ring .Food is basic but good .When the food was not sufficient we let them know and were offered some more . The guide is a nature enthusiast and did his best to show us game .Lions were on offer but we were unlucky to not see them in action . The diversity of birds is a plus in Ruaha . A close encounter with an elephant was one to remember. The passion and interest Sven has in wildlife is infectious . All said and done the camps can be improved a bit and the food . But the guiding and the staff are the best you can get .The vehicle was a dream .

I would like to return to Ruaha to shoot a film and will be doing it shortly and will definitely contact authentic for services .If you someone who is not looking for the utmost luxury but excellent guiding and authentic experience you can go with authentic !

did a 8 day safari in Ruaha National Park with some friends. Staid in Kilimatonge Wilderness Camp. This was just one big amazing adventure. Our guide, Sven, has real knowledge on the wildlife and really knows how to best approach each type of animal. So we got to see all the wildlife from close, we saw a leopard killing an impala (thanks to our guide Sven who made sure other guides were not interfering with the hunting leopard). We did a bushwalk were we approached a lion to about 35 meters,...
Planning to go on a safari in Ruaha park: contact Sven from Autentic Tanzania !

I own a travel business in the US specializing in African safaris and I seek out operators that provide a real bush experience. Authentic Tanzania does just that. I recently took 6 clients with me on a 12 day safari through southern Tanzania operated by Authentic and our stay at their Kilimatonge Wilderness camp was the highlight of our trip. The camp is beautifully situated on a dry river bed overlooking a rocky hill and you are deep in the bush! Our guide Steve and the camp staff were fantastic and they made our stay truly memorable. The food was excellent and we were amazed how John could prepare such good food in such a remote location. The tents are clean and roomy with beds and comfortable linens and the toilet and shower attached to the tent. Nothing like falling asleep to the sounds of roaring lions! The wildlife in Ruaha is incredible and Steve found us lots of elephants and even lions feeding on a recent giraffe kill. I highly recommend a night drive and walking safari as the park rangers were very good. If you're looking to experience the remote bush, you'll find it at the Kilimatonge Wilderness Camp.

We flew in from the Selous & meet by our guide for the next 4 days Rashidi who was just wonderful. Our camp was great well & truly out in the bush, we could hear lions roaring at night & Hyenas calling even a lepoard . No crowds here, our little camp is perfect if you are wanting to get away from people & back to nature. Only a handfull of staff, that do a fantastic job . The wildlife here in Ruaha N.P is just fantastic, saw so many elephants, wow! Lions even the elusive Lepoard. Definitely would stay here again.

Room tip: All good .
