Ikuka is a luxury camp, no doubt about it. Every comfort is considered from the furnishings in the tented rooms to the hot water bottles on morning game drives. The main area is stylish, and the food is simply delicious. But you can find luxurious camps elsewhere. What you can't find elsewhere, what makes Ikuka so very special are two things: its people and its location.
During our stay the camp was hosted by Chevy and Tommy with warmth and enthusiasm. They are brilliantly supported by a team who were attentive, charming and friendly at all times. It's such a happy place.
For us, the stand-out star was Festo, our guide, who was knowledgeable and inspiring, sharing stories about the individual adaptations of animals and birds. He also has a wicked sense of humour while always being a consumate professional.
And then there is the Ruaha. Vast but unspoilt, full of game but empty of people, breathtakingly beautiful but also haunting and wild. We had some fabulous leopard sightings as well as wild dog, elephant, lion, hippo, buffalo, giraffe and zebra while also learning about and seeing the smaller mammals, birds and reptiles.
My daughter and I had a wonderful time and there is nothing we would change. Thank you to each and every one for such a brilliant stay.
