We traveled as couple to this resort as 4 night packaged tour in August 2016. We were on Bangalore-Dubai-Mauritius-Bangalore Tour.
We reached at about 6pm in Mauritus from Dubai and while it was summer in Dubai, Mauritius was in Winter month. While on our way to hotel (about an hour from international airport), we were made aware of Mauritian culture, people, cuisine, religion, history and other info apart from what I knew.
Were greeted by bubbling staff, as the day we were checking in there was cocktail party was in progress. Though folks are mostly from Indian origin, they speak creole (broken french, as they say), they do however understand hindi as well (most of people are from India or indian origin). Anyways, back to review, check-in took a little time as the reception staff and PR were busy entertaining the guest at cocktail party, understandable enough.
We booked for Half board (breakfast + dinner as our days were booked for sight-seeing), so after some exploring the hotel and freshening up, we moved to restaurant for dinner. Now, we knew that food could be a big problem for Vegetarian people as heard from friends and tour organizer (goibibo), my wife is vegetarian and I am like, can eat anything, and we made the staff aware while checking-in and they courteously took our point and made arrangements for her. We were introduced to an Indian chef while on for dinner and he made arrangements for my wife (fixed menu). Food wasn't good, be it veg or non-veg. The spread was good, had different varieties, but was all in quantity and less in quality. And just to make it clear, we are not bound for to any specific cuisine, both of us being avid travelers we try local cuisines (greens or meat) and give fair reviews accordingly. Coming back to point food was bad.
Luckily, we met the Indian cook on the last day for our lunch, and again, my wife was served fixed Vegetarian food, but this time it looks different for good, it looked good and by the look of it we both figured out it was going to be nice. Any mind you it was the best meal out of our 5 days. The Indian cook passed by and we started a pleasant conversation and politely expressed our view of how bad the Indian food was for the past 4 days and it was exceptionally well today? He explained that, he never makes the fixed menu food and that were prepared by local chefs, learning indian cuisine. That day food was made by him! We ate our heart fill and had long conversation with him too, it was memorable. (I am bad at remembering names, but its simple, he's the only Indian there).
Rooms were average, old designed, but maintained well, european styled. Room service was fine too. Garden, kids play area, swimming pool and other areas were well maintained. Resort have programmes in the evening, different days different themes, sometimes with free cocktails and snacks. Events organized were good and involved guests too whom all looked like they enjoyed.
Another interesting point, water is not served in restaurant, rather you have to buy it. Other resorts in the vicinity do provided water filling point but not this one! Reason could be, a majority of folks were European, I could see they wouldn't mind ordering a Litre bottle for more than 100 bucks. We Indians respect the money a lot, so, even if we have good money; at times think twice before spending on something and its worth. MUR ~150 is a daylight robbery, while across the road the same can be purchased from grocery shop in MUR 35!!
Next, the private beach. Its not exactly a beach, it was a small area converted to beach, but the steepness in the water depth and the rough waters make it an un-enjoyable one. Nevertheless, nice try.
There are some water activities, water glass boat, nice and clean, every morning for 30 minutes is treat. Clean see through mauritian sea water was beautiful. Then they had free kayaking and pedal boats, though the person at the counter will give all sorts of reason to not to use the pedal boat and go for some paid expensive rides. Don't listen to him, pedal boats and kayaking are pretty safe and fun too.

This reminds me of the cleaning and porter staff, during check-in they expect tips and during checkout too. I didn't during checkout. We left our luggage at the hotel and requested them to keep it in locker room (its quite normal there as most of the international flights operate during evening hours). Not sure what the staff did with my new American Tourister bag, where they threw it or sat on it, all of its support plastic broke into pieces, its extensible rod got bent. Bag was completely out of shape. Unfortunately, we looked at it when the tour operators bus arrived for airport pickup and he was late and worried of getting caught up in traffic. So, couldn't complain of this situation and had to leave hotel in anger.

To conclude, our stay was mixed bag. Services were either exceptionally good or equally bad.
I would not recommend this resort, there are others better ones with good services and almost the same price.

Room Tip: sea view are good

An average resort. I stayed there for 3N/4D. The resort is very located very near to Grand Baie ( public beach ). The pool area and garden area is their USP. Food isn't very great. There was hardly any change in the breakfast menu for all the 4 days. Vegetarians don't have much options, as their veg spread is very lean. The resort offers complimentary activities like glass bottom boat ride, pedal boat and kayak ( which one needs to reserve in advance). While the rooms are ok ( I was in a standard room), the washrooms need some maintenance. Please avoid having lunch at the resort as there only 5 items in the buffet lunch. Overall an average resort

As soon as we reached the resort after long journey we were welcome with local music by Jeniffer and the entertainment team. From that very point, we got the feeling that it is gonna be enjoyable stay there.

The resort is located right on the beach with nice swimming pool, gym and dining area. It gets full mark for their courteous staff and their events. Every night they had some programs which we enjoyed thoroughly after dinner, participated in most of them and danced there almost everyday. They have also different games for each day. We enjoyed archery very much. Not only that, if someone from your group is celebrating their birthday then just let them know and be ready for a surprise cake at dinner time. Food was good. We were in a group and on our request they arranged special veg Indian food for us daily. We also enjoyed kayaking and pedal boat which was complimentary.

Local bus transport is easily accessible through the bus station across the road. We visited Port Louis and Grand Baie by bus which is priced very reasonably compared to cabs.

The room interior is old fashioned and requires renovation but other facilities made up for that. Wi-Fi is available but in lounge area only not in the rooms.

All in all, it was a great stay at Coral Azur and I would definitely recommend it for a great experience.

Its always a pleasure to go to Mauritius, I have the pleasure to travel there frequently on business and occasionally pleasure.
This is my third time at this resort. is great value for money. I take the half board and this is very reasonable priced.
Don't expect a modern fancy place this is mainly for families without great expectations on luxury. lots of space for the kids to run around.
The resort is showing its age however the stuff make up for the lack of modern looks and appliances. there is nothing you can ask them that they will not try their best to accommodate. WIFI is only available at reception :-( the TV channels are not many and mainly in French. its situated near Grand Baie but I recommend going by Taxi, walking can become very hot and its a bit of a walk.

Room Tip: Just about all rooms have a sea view.

Want beautiful views? Laid back culture? Fantastic service? Friendly staff? Variety of yummy foods? Great nightly entertainment? Lovely rooms with amazing service PLUS a hands on Manager? Then this is the place to be! Ditch your work mode persona and just sit back and unwind - chillaxing at its finest. Nothing too much trouble and if you are celebrating an event(s) as we were, expect something special - just ask! Hotel also boasts a brilliant local owned 'tourist' shop, where I not only found some items for home cheaper than the markets but some unique items too. Oh and to top off our experience the hotel boasts it's very own 'Jennifer Lopez' aka Jennifer at the PR desk - a big character. Thank you Franceso Sommer & your team for pulling out all the stops for an amazing unforgettable 80th birthday celebration for my mom - memories forever!
