Located on top of a hill, this house has been carefully decorated with flair. Very attractive inside, nice sitting room and porch, full kitchen almost full wrap around deck with hot tub and hammock. Upstairs loft bedroom has a queen mattress on the floor which we did not realize. ceilings are low upstairs and in the bathroom and between the seven of us we hit our heads five times, so be careful. Cute little shops down the hill a mile or two and antique shops. Cassie's cafe was great. The owners provided three small fans for us as there is no air conditioning, so bring a few more if it is hot. We were extremely hot at night and uncomfortable during the end of july. Rooms in basement with bunk beds were nice and cool. you need to bring your own toilet paper, paper towels, dish soap, hand soap, dishwasher soap, shampoos and garbage bags.

We would love to come again, hopefully in the Fall time so we can do some hiking and enjoy the hot tub in cooler weather. Highly recommend this beautiful cabin
This is the second time I've stayed at Bill and Heide's Roxbury cabin - the first was just my little family of three but the second time was with another family with three kids and it was such a great time. With its three levels, the cabin is perfect for two families. The basement has bunkbeds that easily accommodated our four kids with a bedroom next door where our friends could keep an eye on their smaller ones during the night. The one drawback to the basement is that it is a bit musty smelling, but there are windows and even a door off the main bedroom that you can open to air the space out. My husband and I stayed upstairs in the loft and enjoyed the relative privacy as well as the en suite bathroom. The cabin itself is clean, well-proportioned, and well-equipped. There is an issue with the water, as it's source is a well, and so big groups must be careful about conserving water or else tax it and be left with pink water. As a result, we brought jugs of drinking water and ice - there's no ice maker - but I was prepared for this before we came as Bill advised me about it the night before our arrival and so wasn't terribly bothered by it. In terms of supplies, be advised that the town of Roxbury, although very quaint, doesn't have a real grocery store. It has a convenience store that sells basics including ice, but not much else. There is a GREAT wine and liquor store in town, though.
The highlight of the cabin is a wonderful deck that runs the length of the building with a hot tub and a hammock that the kids adored on one end and a gas grill on the other. For me, though, it was the view from the deck that makes me want to come back again and again. Spectacular. I would wake up early in the morning while everyone else was asleep and ease into the hot tub and watch the light in the sky. So quiet, so peaceful. So utterly lovely. A tonic for someone escaping the city for a weekend. With a separate barn/garage complete with a png pong table and an old pin ball machine, a fire ring outside, and two separate grills, not to mention a short drive from one of the most amazing olympic sized swimming pools I've ever seen at the Mill Kill State Park, it's the kind of place a family would want to return to again and again. My family certainly well. Thanks Heide and Bill!
We had an absolutely amazing time and it was just what we needed for a nice quiet getaway.
The loft bed is extremely comfortable and the sheets felt so nice and soft. They have all the appliances you need, just make sure to go grocery shopping before you go. The hot tub is the best part, it works great and even though it was 25-30 degrees out we used it every night and it just felt awesome! (Some extra flood lights pointed near the hot tub on the side of the cabin would be nice. It was peaceful but we weren't quite used to the wood sounds, be nice to see out at night) It was also great to relax with some wine in front of the fireplace each night.
The Shilstones are very attentive to your needs and email/call promptly and give all the information you could possibly need. Mr Shilstone even gave us a late check out since we had to arrive late as well due to some scheduling conflicts. Like I said, VERY attentive! We have already decided we will return regularly as long as this place is available which I hope will be for a long time!
Thank you very much for our great weekend getaway!
We had a wonderful stay at the cabin. The location is breathtaking, the cabin is beautifully furnished, and it had a warm and relaxing atmosphere. Bill and Heide were very friendly and helpful, they went above and beyond with recommendations for different activities in the area. We went on several hikes nearby and saw some gorgeous valleys and waterfalls. The hot tub was also a huge bonus, we couldn't have asked for more! Thanks!
