Great checkin and good rooms

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 22 Jan 2024
The room was big, clean and comfortable. The woman who checked me in made me feel welcome. She asked about my room preferences and where I had parked, then gave me a quiet room near that entrance. I appreciate the thoughtful service and would be glad to stay here again.

We stayed in a King Suite and the room was extremely clean and spacious. I believe the rooms were recently renovated because the colors were very contemporary. The main room had a sofa and chair plus desk. There was also a bar with fridge and coffee maker. The shower was one of the best showers I've ever used in a hotel. The staff was very welcoming and kind. I met Carolina in housekeeping one morning and I asked her if I could take some clean towels from the cart which was outside a room she was cleaning. ( I chose not to have my room cleaned that day) and she said "Of course, this is your home while you stay with us!" She also offered to freshen up my room. The manager of this property was also wonderful. We had to book 2 different reservations for our stay because we used points for some days. She told us we needed to exchange room keys for the nights we paid for. When I went back to the desk a few days later she had them ready! I couldn't believe she remembered. That is great service!

The hotel was outdated with a color palette in the hallways left over from the early 1980s, with only a single elevator for a large floor-plan. We asked to be moved to the first floor to avoid having to walk 3/4's of the way around the second floor with our luggage cart. The hallways were filthy and did not appear to have been vacuumed for several weeks. There were laundry bundles in the hallway outside rooms well beyond time for the cleaning staff to collect and process them.

One of the two luggage carts had a broken axle.

The rooms we stayed in has recently been updated in corporate neutral grey-pewter-white. The door to our bathroom creaked as if it had been installed improperly. I reported both issues on check-out.

The clerk at check-in was cordial and efficient and was new to a customer-facing role. Good for her!

Another staff member was abrupt when we asked about availability of the Bistro. "No bistro. Our person quit." We told her about 24x7 coffee at a nearby Courtyard, she said "That would be nice" and walked off.

I understand the staffing challenges hoteliers have these days, but bad manners reflect inadequate training.

Not really up to my usual experience with the Courtyard brand. Local owner-operator needs to up its game.

They charged us for internet; we were never told that there were 2 ways to get online, and that one way would generate a charge.

We were there 2 nights. No maid service. We were never told that if you want maid service you have to REQUEST it.

Room was laid out super weird. 5 couples stayed there and we all agreed, all rooms were BIZARRE! Bed location was against a wall that I’ve literally never seen in my life, as it faced a window. Very awkward to get around.

Room and bathroom were apparently designed by the winner of the “Ugly and bland” contest. Aesthetically cold, and just “BLAH”.

Would not recommend.

Seven of us began a five-day bike ride to NYC at the Marriott Poughkeepsie. Shantel & the staff of the hotel were very accommodating, allowing us to put our bikes in our rooms and most importantly, allowing us to leave our cars in their parking lot for several days. The hotel was clean, quiet and very reasonably priced. Highly recommend to bikers and others in the area. And I never leave reviews! Outstanding place.

Upon entering our room, we noticed that the sliding glass door leading outside did not seem secure. The manager immediately changed our room to one on the upper level. The hotel was modern and bathrooms were up to date. The bed was comfortable. No breakfast was served, although there was a small cafe in the lobby. The main issue with the hotel was the layout of the rooms in relation to the elevator. The hotel was designed as a large square, with only one elevator in the back corner, making it difficult to transport luggage to the upper floors. There were many restaurants and shopping in the area. We would definitely stay there again.
