Beautiful garden tended by owner Christopher, this place is the perfect antidote to the hype of central Oia,a small bay is just a short walk away where you can be in perfect isolation. Old style hospitality without the hype. Would recommend a stay here

This is the ideal place to stay if you want to do Santorini on a budget and for us the perfect stay. Hotels and villas in the main towns are at least twice the price but for us Ecoxenia truly gives you the best of both worlds. Christopher and his assistant Mariana made our week stay a fantastic experience and Ecoxenia is extremely well thought out for its guests.

The rooms are clean, quiet and comfortable with everything you need. We always opt for self-catering (restaurants in Santorini are all expensive) on holiday and the kitchenette was perfectly equipped. If you have a balcony then you can see the colours of the sunset but just hop down to the end of the garden to see all its beauty.

We're going to be realistic here about its distance from everything. There is an opening to the sea just a ten minute walk downhill but it is not a built path and the shoreline here is very rocky and covered in seaweed so not ideal if you're looking to swim. There is a private little shack with sun loungers especially for guests here which provides shade and rest.

Oia is at least a half hour walk up hill. It is not paved all the way and in the hot weather is pretty gruelling. You can hire a car/ATV if required, just ask Mariana. We did not and found that the holiday provided good exercise. All of Santorini is hilly so if you're not prepared for exercise you should hire a car. On one evening Christopher flagged a car down from a local going to work who gave us a lift up the hill so that's an option too if you're comfortable with it. Oia itself is beautiful and a must-see but be prepared for large swarms of tourists with their selfie sticks and lack of spatial awareness. We recommend going in the morning (before 10am) to avoid getting caught up in the crowds.

To walk to Paradexes beach with actual black sand and a more gentle opening into the water is about half an hour in the other direction and there is the great Taverna Delfini on the way for drinks or a snack. The way there is at least level.

A taxi to Fira is just €20. Taxi to the airport is €35. Any taxis you need can be booked reliably through Mariana who is at reception from 8am and extremely helpful and knowledgeable. She can also talk you through the island and give you personal recommendations on where to go and what to see. Christopher, as a member of staff she is an absolute credit to Ecoxenia!

The gardens at Ecoxenia are gorgeous and extremely well kept. There is loads of space to sit out and the bar is open generally whenever you need. The bar is excellent value and cheaper than anywhere else in Santorini - they also stock the red/yellow donkey ales local to the island.

The hot tub is gorgeous, especially if you get a cooler day. Just ask if you want to use it.

We actually emailed Christopher before our trip to book a taxi from the airport and get a restaurant recommendation for our wedding anniversary. He was so helpful and we had a lovely meal in Oia and our driver was waiting for us at the airport when we arrived, giving us a local tour of the island and a little volcanic history on the way to Ecoxenia.

All in all this has been an extremely pleasant stay made even better by Christopher and his team. We love Santorini and Ecoxenia is the perfect place to stay if you want to get away from obnoxious tour groups and have some real relaxation as well as see the sights.

This magnificent little hotel is located just a few minutes from downtown Oia, right by the lovely Domani Sigali vineyard. It is an amazing value for the cost and the apartments and clean and well maintained, located on lovely grounds with a view of the sunset. We booked through air BnB, though there are many ways to book a place here.

The true gem of this place is the staff- who welcomed us with a glass of wine and a list of personalized and amazing recommendations all over the island. Throughout our stay they were incredibly helpful, oftentimes going out of their way to ensure our stay was a success.

We will definitely be back.

Room Tip: There are no bad rooms here.

On a beautiful Greek island that is under siege by legions of tourists this hotel stands out as exceptional. The quality of the rooms is outstanding value for money paid. The property of the hotel and in particular the gardens are beautiful with a great view of the sea. But what is most striking about this hotel was how knowledgeable and helpful the owners were in guiding us to the best of what Santorini has to offer.

What terrific luck that we found this place and chose to stay here!

We had never been to Santorini, and our initial research told us the following: (a) The capital, Fira, is a crowded, busy place, and not the best choice for a family vacation. (b) Oia is the picturesque town on the north side of the island that is the subject of all of those photos you always see of white buildings and blue cupolas. Since we knew nothing about any of the island's other beautiful towns, Firostefani, Imerovigli, Pyrgos, etc. - and since, like everyone else, we fell in love with those photos - Oia became the obvious destination for our vacation.

We are a family of four, and we were planning to stay for ten days: from the end of June into peak season, the beginning of July. And the first hotel I looked at on line priced at $52,000 U.S. I knew that I had either made a mistake, or that I needed to keep on looking.

We kept coming back to Ecoxenia. Thank goodness we did.

Ecoxenia is in a spot that, as we have come to understand, reflects the way the island used to be: Quiet. Peaceful. Beautiful. It’s on the north shore, just a 15-or-so minute walk up the hill to downtown (or uptown!) Oia. We had a Santorini sunset view from our terrace every night. And at first we thought we would just stay in our lovely two studio apartments, and walk to a beach each day, or take a taxi to an excursion like our catamaran trip, and then walk into town each night for dinner.

However, we listened very carefully to Christopher, the proprietor, and Marianna, his manager, and every one of the suggestions they made. And we took every last piece of advice they gave us.

We won't tell you what advice they gave. You'll have to stay there and find it all out for yourself.

In sum, we had an amazing vacation in Santorini because of Ecoxenia, Christopher, and Marianna. We experienced every part of the island we could possibly squeeze into our ten days, and definitely hit all of the highlights. And each of those highlights was a recommendation from our hosts. I might have discovered some of them through countless hours of research. But I doubt it. Certainly not all of them.

You can stay at a place where you sit on your terrace by your pool and tan all day, and schedule your meals around this. We are not like that kind of people. Or you can stay and enjoy Ecoxenia, and learn about and experience the astounding, magical place that is Santorini.

Room Tip: They're all great!
