Stayed in the wooden luxury room with sea-view and private pool. Everything looks good on paper, and it is clean and well taken care of. But it wasn’t luxury.

The compound is huge, and they have three different levels of rooms: dorms, standard, and luxury. The expectations of the service is quite different between the different customer groups. All guests are however treated like they stay in the dorms. As a customer of the luxury room, the service was really bad given that the rooms are quite costly. It was of course a choice to pay this kind of money, but I would expect that the hotel could deliver a service that met expectations. And they had some weird bracelets and credit cards that for sure took away the feeling of luxury

As a start we were tagged with a plastic bracelet and was warned to take it off. This has definitely not anything to do with any kind of luxury- instead it made us feel like cattle at Disneyland. To be honest, it seems like this is how the bigger hotels do at Kendwa.

We was also forced to use a hotel credit card instead of just putting things on the room. And we were several times asked to provide for the card before they put in the order. It felt like they didn’t trust us, and treated us as sneaky backpackers that would do anything to avoid paying.

We were also sometimes questioned when getting the towels for the beach, and told in a very rude way to hand in the towels the same day.

At check in we had no towels, and the toilette was not working (not possible to flush). We had to call 3 times to get some one to have a look at the toilette. We even went to the reception and the girl there lied to us that the plumber just went down to us and would fix it. It took them 5 hours to get around and fix the toilette.

We have never ever had the need to call the front desk as many times as we did during this stay. In fact, we hardly every have the need to.

3 out of 6 days we had to call in order to get towels. Often we didn’t get all the towels and bathroom mat. That wouldn’t be a problem unless the housekeeping hadn’t taken all the towels and bathroom mat already.

The housekeeping didn’t take the unclean dishes unless they were told. The same for bottles that were ignored by them.

One day the housekeeping had left all windows open to our room. The windows are as big as doors with just a simple mosquito net to protect our things. The front reception showed no understanding for our concern regarding the safety of our things.

Several times during our stay were the cleaning system of the pool or the lamp in the pool not working.

Please note that there is some kind of party on Saturdays with loud music until 2 AM or something like that.

We still had a great time staying at Kendwa, even though we were tagged like cattle, and payed way to much for what the room and service was worth.

This is one of the best hotels I have ever been to! Amazing Beach, with very little people. We stayed in a family bungalow and it was perfect standard with our own pool. The hotel workers and all the lokals we met where extremely nice and welcoming. Good food. Especially the pizza and breakfast. The beach was perfect for a relaxing vacation and we had a lot of fun playing volleyball with the locals and other guests. We will defintely come back to this amazing place and this wonderful hotel.

The location of the hotel on the best beach of Zanzibar. Ideal place for a beach holiday. Good, delicious breakfasts, lots of fruit. Quality Internet everywhere in the hotel. Sufficient sunbeds and umbrellas on the beach. Cozy, clean rooms, good plumbing, air conditioning. Daily cleaning, on request. The hotel has a generator in case of a power outage. Friendly, helpful staff. Special thanks to the manager RAVINDRA for the professionalism and assistance that he provided us. We felt very comfortable here, like at home. "STRONG MAN" Vladimir

Long, clean beach, blue water of Indian ocean, gentle waves - what else can one ask for? Decent crowd. Please don't pay much attention to below, if you wish to enjoy the beach itself.
The attendants at beach do not understand much English. We had been there, did not check in the hotel, just to enjoy beach. We wished to have a cot to keep our belongings, were ready to pay for it but did not get proper response.
Lydia in the restaurant was extremely helpful.

Visiting Zanzibar is not complete if you have not visited Kendwa Rocks. Great food, culture and fantastic location to party at night and dive, snorkel and so much more during the day. Hotel caters to all budget types. Amazing white sandy beach’s makes a long party evening fade in the sun set
