Unbeatable spot in the African Bush

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 28 Aug 2022via mobile
Hotel's Favourite
A gem of a spot for game viewing and getting 5 star treatment. First, the hospitality is second to none with all of the staff giving 110% focused energy on making the stay memorable. Every one readily wears different hats, especially the assistant manager, Keegan, who was guide, tracker, gate transfer driver, waiter, wine connoisseur, vehicle polisher, drummer, dancer, and an all around lovely host, along with his hard working and warm fiancee Kyra. The food was superb, menus flexible, and the chef a bundle of enthusiasm and fun. We enjoyed an unbelievable South African braai and cultural night, with the lodge's own choir (all the staff energetically singing and dancing despite a long day looking after us). The masseuse/ housekeeper was excellent at both jobs and we could have ate the exquisite meals off the shiny floors she kept. Even the gardeners had time for a chat with big smiles. The shots to warm up with after the fantastic game drives, and amrulla enhanced morning coffees, and even freshly picked bushman's mint tea while taking in the rhinos made the visit surreal. Keegan has superhuman enthusiasm and compassion for the animals and endless knowledge (which is advanced with a degree in zoology). We loved the bush olympics he orchestrated too. There is definately a special energy about the place and we recommend you leave this visit to the end of any RSA holiday as its hard to beat.

Staying at the Lodge is an amazing experience.
Miriam the chef is a magician who creates the most enticing and delicious meals.
The wildlife is great and we had a number of fabulous moments particularly when Anouchka (our guide) found a male lion relaxing in the grass a short distance from us. Temba the lion then treated us to a series of roars which made our bodies tingle. A magical moment. Would not hesitate to return, we wish it was tomorrow !

It was our first trip to Nungubane and I hope it won't be our last.

We had a family reunion at the lodge and words cannot do it justice.

From the time we arrived, we felt welcomed. The lodge is beautifully positioned with a spectacular view. The rooms are well appointed and every need taken care of. The staff are wonderful and are very accommodating. The game drives with Keegan were excellent - he has great knowledge of the animals, birds and Welgevonden. Chris was a very hospitable host and has great drumming skills.
Meriam was a wonderful chef and was able to adapt meals to suit everyone. The quality and presentation of the food was excellent. Toomi was a treat. Lizzie sat and spoke to my Mom when we were on a game drive.

It is the attention to detail that make Nungubane a wonderful place to visit.

Congratulations to the whole team!

My husband and I recently spent a memorable weekend at this lodge in the Welgevonden private game reserve. So many highlights!
- perfectly private with only 5 rooms and beautiful views
- our room was spacious and exceedingly comfortable with great amenities, including aircon, and an indoor fireplace
- great food! Our meals were fantastic, so tasty and filling!
- game drives were safe and comfortable, with great sightings
- the best was our game ranger, Keegan! So friendly, a great driver and host, and incredibly knowledgeable - we learnt so much!

It was our 1st trip to Nungubane and wow what a wonderful weekend it was. The lodge is beautifully positioned with an amazing view. The accommodation was beautiful and private. The beds very comfortable and the fire place was lovely. The food was absolutely delicious and offered a great variety of beautifully prepared food. The staff were warm and welcoming and made us feel very special. Our guide was Anushka and she was super lovely. Friendly, informative and she has a wonderful sense of humour. She is takes pride in making sure her guests are happy and is very accommodating with personal needs and requests. We loved every minute and would love to return.

Room tip: All rooms are lovely and have a great view into the bush.
