Entering the Hoot Owl Lodge is entering a home, a place with a soul. At first I thought I was mistakenly trespassing someone's house indeed. But the welcoming sign outside was unmistakable. The place is clean, the interior decoration is tasteful and, well, 'homy' to the core. The rooms are spacious and Toni and Kelly are the friendliest hosts you will ever have the chance to be spoiled by east of the Mississippi. Kelly's breakfast is an attack on the tastebuds and the wasteline and by now even famous in the Benelux (I am a travel writer and stayed here during an assignment). Toni likes to fix things and to do trips outdoors so tak advantage of his knowledge of theis beautiful part of the Adirondacks. This is a most wonderful place to come home to.
There isn't much in Newcomb in terms of amenities, but even if the Hoot Owl was smack in the middle of Tourist Town, it would be a gem. The rooms are huge with comfy feather beds, and the location is great, across the street from the beautiful town beach and about 20 minutes from Upper Works for some of the best hiking in the Adirondacks. On top of all that, the host, Kelly, was wonderful. She was totally accommodating to all our needs. There was homemade cake waiting for us when we arrived, and breakfast was an amazing feast that kept us fueled for a full day of hiking.
Spent the night at the Hoot Owl for some mud season hiking. Kelly & Tony are friendly, Low Key and accommodating. The TR room is comfortable, spacious & quiet despite facing the road. Good Healthy Breakfast! The property has a definite Adirondack feel, more on the warm side, rather than the stark and dark vibe when it's overdone.
I never thought a man in plaid would review a B&B, but I need to go on the record about this establishment. Cozy, comfortable and centrally isolated (I mean that in a good way). Don't be late, book a date on Route 28!
