Huge Sociable weaver nests, quiver tree forests and comfortable living with wise use of natural resources

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 10 Sept 2022via mobile
We stopped here we’ll into a 3-week trip. Although this camp is classed as rustic, the attention to detail made for a very comfortable stay. Working off solar power gas and donkey boilers, we had access to a communal freezer, we’re able to charge cell phones and camera batteries, had good suppers, good lighting and lots of hot water. The bedroom had very comfortable beds, little carpets so sand could be removed from feet, there was a box of board games to hand and the semi-open kitchen was well equipped. We joined Oom Giel, for a guided tour and wonderful stories of this beautiful farm, and got to see war graves, fossils and 1000s of quiver trees and fascinating stacks of basalt rocks. Many photos of spectacular sunsets, Milky Way and star trails. Careful use of natural resources

This was one of our favourite places during our most recent trip to Namibia. Our chalet was clean and comfortable. Lots of hot water from the donkey boiler which was lit for us.
Our kitchen area next to the chalet was great, table, chairs, 2 solid plate stove, crockery and cutlery etc. In the communal kitchen further along from the chalets is a fridge/freezer which you can use. There is a stone braai built next to the chalet.

We went on the tour with Geel, what a lovely man. Very informative and fun. We were allowed to wander through the quiver trees and rocks, after the tour was over. We stayed for 4 nights and loved every minute. It's a place we would go back to. Peaceful, stunning scenery and our batteries were totally recharged.

This beautiful place was one of our highlights of our month's trip to Namibia! This place is a nature lovers and photographer's dream. We were blown away by the quiver trees and rock formations as well as the history behind the mesosaurus fossils. Giel Steenkamp stole our hearts, he was so kind, knowledgeable and just an all round wonderful man who really loves his farm and the nature around him that he has so richly been blessed with. The camp site is incredibly basic, rustic and sandy which for a genuine camper is awesome. However, we chose to have a break from camping and stayed in the cottages. Picture Fred Flintstone's cottages and that's what you're getting. Rustic, with outdoor kitchen and barbecue. Basic indoor shower and toilet with bedroom. Clean and tidy with a thatch roof. All you need for a comfortable night's sleep. We loved the fossil tour. Check the times beforehand or find them on the door of his office at reception. Please try rather to let him know that you want to be on the tour. The next day we did the free 4 x 4 route which was easy but mind blowing to be amongst all the interesting boulders and quiver trees. A must to do! This camp is really experiencing so much in one. The beautiful scenery on this farm is spectacular and if you can, make the most of it during sundown when all the quiver trees are glowing.

We camped at the Bush camping site. It is rustic and clean with hot water. The camping sites have huge trees for shade. There are a lot of Quiver trees near the camp. The camp manager (Giel) was very friendly. He showed us the fossil trail and Quiver Forrest whilst informing us about the history of the area.

We camped at the bush camp. It is situated amongst the rocks and quiver trees. Each campsite has its own big tree, providing ample shade. There are braaipits provided, take your own wood. Ablutions are basic, with a donkey water heater, but clean and sufficient. Friendly owners!

Room tip: Take your own wood. Don’t even bother with the other quiver tree camp in the area

Great place to spend 1 or 2 nights. We were alone in the campsite and all commodities were goods. The owner is very friendly and the visit of the fossil was a nice activity. Numerous quivertree and dolerite (rock formations) are all around (no real need to go to the nearby parks).
