There are not a lot of restaurants in the area. We were going to eat lunch at another establishment but it was closed. We drove into Jeff and saw Tavern on Main. Thought we might try it. I now live in SC and was having lunch with 2 of my classmates from high school (1960's). None of us had been here before. What a great surprise!
There is a very well appointed dining room, however we did ask to change tables as the air would have been blowing down on our necks. We were moved to the table in the front window. Much better. Also, much easier to talk over old times as we were away from the crowds in the dining room. We talked with the bartender and he was very nice.
While service was a bit slow in bringing our drinks and taking our orders, for us it was great to have time to just visit.
The menu had many more selections than I thought it would have. There were several seafood starters as well as wings, and hummus. There were sandwiches/ burgers that sounded really good, including a veggie burger. Salads included standard house as well as "shaved pear and frisee, "roasted beets & pork belly," and "smoked duck." These are not salads one would normally see in this area. Several items were marked as "gluten free."
We all thought quiche and a salad sounded. We had a choice and all were flavorful, and done perfectly. I had never had a quiche before that was so light and airy and tall. All agreed theirs was delicious. The house salad and dressings were savory, delicious, and there was plenty.
My old classmates who still live in the area agreed they would love to come back with their husbands. If I visit again, I'll certainly put Tavern on Main at the top of the list for a meal again.
