Hotel was nice, new and clean although overpriced for what they offered and where they are located. But the service of the staff was excellent. We especially enjoyed working with Bobby the valet. They have a shuttle service to town and he gave us some great recommendations and a small tour on our way there. Arturo was also very nice and accommodating. I unfortunately didn’t get the name of the bartender or waitress who worked Saturday morning were excellent and very attentive to us. The only down side was the area. It is apparently in the first phase of up and coming area that is more down trodden than an area for a hotel with such a high price point. Recommend using some of that high charge for the room ($300+/night w a 2 night min) to give each of your excellent team members a bonus or raise. Beds were extremely comfortable and the rooms very nicely decorated although a little small and could have used a couch or 2nd chair.

Dear bandl83,

Thank you for the kind words. I will share them with Arturo and Bobby and post this on our kudos board for the team to see. We are conveniently located a few blocks below Warren and a two minute walk to the Amtrak Hudson Station. The area is only going to get better, but it is a safe neighborhood with plenty of Hudson charm! We hope you come visit us again, and keep in mind our weekday rates are competitively priced.

Sincerely,

Matthew

Interesting architectural structure. Room was clean and cozy. Walking distance to The Basilica where we came to celebrate an important wedding. Very close to the town of Hudson. We would have walked but it rained.

Dear Swenden,

Thank you so much for your review. We take pride in our building, which once was a candle factory being repurposed into this fantastic hotel we call home in Hudson. From the large suites, to the historic candlemaker rooms we have something truly special. We hope you come back for a visit and the weather is pleasant. Warren Street has a lot to offer in the form of shopping, antique browsing, art galleries, and dining.

Thank you,
Matthew

The view sucks. It's going to be your first impression.

And that's because The Wick is a former candle and soap factory, located in what was an industrial section of Hudson. Others here have noted that the first floor of the hotel is essentially in the basement of the property; we got a room on the second floor with a scenic view of....an empty warehouse. If we'd chosen the other side of the building, we'd have gotten a view of a barren hillside, with some relatively rundown properties at the top. Driving in for the first time, we wondered if we'd chosen badly.

That's the bad news. If you're choosing a quaint hotel, with a marvelous view of the Hudson River...this is not it. But, there's a lot to like about The Wick.

The hotel itself is modern, while honoring the building's past. Long corridors have brass plaque images of candle- and soap-related patents posted on the walls. Our room itself was very, very spacious, clean with a great king-sized bed. CO Bigelow toiletries were in the bathroom (which was easily the size of some NYC hotel rooms). There's an electric car or two, ready to shuttle you to just about any place you wish to go in Hudson; the central business district is about seven blocks long, filled with quirky, locally-owned shops...many of them, antique stores.

The staff is uniformly friendly, from the front desk all the way up to the general manager. There are even chargers along the side wall outside for your electric car. (Note: three chargers, two of them are for Teslas...the third is for the anyone else who has a hybrid.)

The hotel has a few quirks that need to be ironed out, given that it's only been open since about the first of the year. Until recently, it provided a free continental breakfast for patrons. That's changed....although fully half of the menus I saw still had that printed on them. The staff has literally been cutting out that part of the menu and pasting the rest back together. When I asked about the ice machine, I was told they were moving it to another location and that I could get ice by going to the front desk. And the bar didn't offer any locally produced cider. Given that this region prides itself on its cideries, that seems to be an easily-corrected overlook. (They do carry sizeable selections from both the Chatham Brewing Company and the Hudson Brewing Company, which is a one-minute drive from the parking lot.)

A continental breakfast here costs $10; a hot breakfast costs $17. You can do better in town, but you may decide this is a nice luxury...eating your breakfast with a joyous view of the warehouse. The Amtrak station is an easy walk away, so if you're using the train to get to or to leave Hudson, the Wick may be a great choice.

The nightly rates here are solid as well, with rooms going for less than the nearby Farmer & Sons rooming house. If you use an app like Hotel Tonight, and are willing to play the "wait until last second" game, you can get the room for as little as $106 a night.

Hudson seems to me to be a town on the rebound, and one that both celebrates its past as it looks to its artistic future. In that respect, the Wick may be perfectly positioned to capitalize on that.

Dear Steve,

Thank you for taking the time review our beautiful boutique property. I appreciate the kind words about the team as we strive to connect with every guest. The plaques on the walls are the actual patents for candle making from when we were a candle factory. Yes, we went to the patent office and pulled the designs! We do have one electric shuttle to bring our guests to Warren Street, and will happily pick you back up. Please note, it is not a long walk up the local stairway next to the hotel, but why walk when you can ride in "e-style".

We do hope to see you again soon.

Sincerely,
Matthew

Though this property is part of the SPG group it doesn’t feel like a chain hotel- much more charming.
The rooms are huge and the beds are amazing!
My only gripe is that all twin rooms are basically underground , though as we spent our days out exploring this didn’t worry us.
Free bottled water and good string WiFi we’re both much appreciated.

Dear travelingaussie0,

Thank you so much for the kinds words. We are pleased you had a great experience. A side note to all, the light wells on the one side of the first floor were the candlemakers workshops. Very historic and charming!

Keep traveling,

Matthew
