Sheer Bliss

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 20 Aug 2022via mobile
Crossing the river in a small motorised boat we were transported into Nirvana. Just six tented rooms comprise the camp. Each is organised to look directly onto the river where one may while away the time observing the birds and animals, especially the groups of hippos disporting themselves. Indeed the snorting and snuffling of the hippos may qualify as ac”theme tune” for the camp.

The tents/rooms are enormous. The bed is capacious with mosquito nets set down at night. There is a bathroom with free-standing bath and walk-in shower supplied with piping hot water. A separate unit holds the toilet. Two basins complete the sanitation ware. The wardrobe area forms part of the bathroom area.

Outside there is a plunge/small swimming pool. Sun loungers and couches abound which bare under trees. A bush buck wandered idly past as we relaxed. This open area for animals means that that one has to be accompanied to the room at night.

Food is excellent. Breakfast is almost up to you. The local yoghurt is superb being thick and creamy. Pancakes or eggs are offered. Lunch is usually salad with a quiche and hot dish served fresh as a buffet. One selects dinner at tea from a menu of only three courses all delicious.

Drinks are included and may be chosen from a selection inside the room or from a small bar in the main room for the entire camp.

Turning to the safari drives on offer and other options these are at the heart of the camp. The guides are informative, friendly and keen to make the drive as exciting as possible. Giraffe are a special animal here in the park with the Thornicroft or Luangwa sub-species only located here.

The staff were outstanding Emmanuel gave a great news about the history of the camp and the others in the group.

Superb. We shall return

I was very fortunate to spend a couple amazing nights at Chinzombo. It is situated on a bend on the Luangwa River with a sweeping view of a beautiful, lively landscape. The villa is very well appointed, immaculate and comfortable. A great place to relax. The staff is wonderfully attentive. Gloria is a gem of a host and Adam was a stellar safari guide. The food, every dish, was incredible. I cannot recommend this place enough. This was a wonderful vacation and I cannot wait to get back.

A fantastic lodge and worthy of its status as a luxury getaway. Being a boutique lodge with a maximum capacity of 15 people and 5 enormous chalets, one can expect a secluded experience. Each chalet is given a dedicated guide and safari vehicle so you are always going to have your own space. The lodge is tastefully decorated and everything is inviting, the main area is spacious with lots of places you want to kick back and relax. The rooms are beautiful and vast. A wonderful extra king bed with ample relaxing areas both in the room and on your private deck. A very special space to enjoy the beauty and serenity of the environment around you. Of course all of this would not be worthy of praise if the staff and management were not up to scratch - In this area they excel. The guides are very knowledgable and quickly understand how to tailor their input to meet your interests. The rest of the team are just so friendly and very well trained to make you feel special and while they meet your every requirement, also make sure you have your privacy and space.

Chinzombo is a magical experience and while i am fairly critical, this lodge and its team are top notch and you will not regret choosing it as your holiday destination.

Room tip: With only 5 to choose from they are all good choices

My wife had an accident in Malawi while traveling to Zambia, so we will forever be thankful for the great service and flexibility we were provided. They took such extraordinary care of us and they did everything in their power to accommodate and change our itinerary to what ever worked best including spending the first night at the closest camp to the airport to see how she was doing and get a South African doctor to check her out (this doctor was fantastic, and even with the poor resolution x-rays of my foot, she could diagnose that I had bone fractures and treat my wounds, etc., that the Malawi doctor could not). When the Tide and Team later saw we enjoyed being in the northern part of Southern Luangwa (less crowded ) they offered us at the last minute another camp to stay overnight for us (which turned out to be a favorites). All their camps worked extremely well as a team, communicated together and up to date on how I was doing. Service was perfection at all the camps, and a shout out to the women’s management team at Chinzombo (believe Glory or Gracie, Faith and Precious) and there was also exceptional team at Kakuli too, who unfortunately can remember their names.

Aesthetically, a beautiful, very spacious and well-designed – both camp main areas and ‘tents’ in lovely setting right on the river. I was initially a little put off by use of synthetic materials, but Tide and Team’s thought is that this would save trees. the camp does border where hunting is still allowed, but didn’t see any impact of that.

For such a beautiful camp, they one thing they could improve is the cuisine to classify as luxury. This is something we would have never thought important on safari, but having had so many exceptional dining experiences in the bush, even camps far away from a major city, it becomes part of our comparison now. Also they seem to allow smoking close to the dining area.

Very expensive and although the rooms are incredible and the standard of safari guidance is excellent it’s not really worth the money. If you like eating at your own private tables for all meals then you’d enjoy it here, where we quite like group tables where everyone swaps stories of what they saw on safari over dinner and wine. The wine here was better than usual for safari house wine but for the price that’s to be expected.

Safari was good here including walking safaris and probably the best night safaris as we saw several leopard including one with a kill and a mother and 2 young.

Sundowners were lovely here with great spots and beautiful views.

We are delighted that you enjoyed your safari and were so well taken care of by our guides and saw several leopard on one drive. The South Luangwa is referred to as the valley of the leopard as this region is just perfect for them to thrive.

Best regards from us all at Time + Tide
