Amazingly plush!

This place is amazing. The best accomodation we stayed in on safari. It is expensive but it delivers everything you would expect and more. Food, wine, people, attention to detail is faultless. Location on the river is great. Hippo's at night chomping on the grass sets the mood for safari. The game viewing and river venue makes for a great stay. The guide was excellent. My only criticism was the pick up at the airport was not a good start. We drove in the open 4x4 through a large area subject to burn off - 30 minutes of smoke and bugs hitting you in the face, not good if you suffer from asthma.

We stayed for four nights in Chinzombo, and we enjoyed every minute.
The rooms are fabulous. Contemporary design, but inside many 'African style" details. Huge bed, which has a great aircon above it, which provides a very gentle flow of cool air. I'm normally no fan on airconditioning in lodges, but this one I really liked. In the heat of the day, it helped for a good siesta. At noght it cooled down anyhow enough. Bathroom had free-standing bath with a good view of the river, a walk-in shower, double sinks and seperate toilet. Enough space to place our stuff.
On the deck a small private pool, and several seats. Great view of the river, and the hippos in the water. At night they came 'to cut the grass' on the lawns between our room and the river.
Service was excellent, and all staff members did whatever possible to make us happy, starting from the managers (Ben and Billy) to waiters and night guards who escort you to and from your room in the dark.
Food was excellent. Served at seperate tables, quality and presentation was very good. Breakfast was nice, and cooked to order over the fire. Lunch was buffet with lots of good choices. Dinner was three courses, with choices for all three. The house wines were also nice, and served at the right temperature.
Game drives were great. Our guide Abraham was one of the best ones we have met during many years of safari. He recognized our interests quickly, and showed us many nice things, including a leopard kill (where the poor leopard lost its prey to hyenas), great lion sightings, several other leopards, but also lots of birds (97 different species) and other wildlife. We particularly appreciated the fact that Abraham was so relaxed, and did not try to rush from one sighting to another, but also showed us the smaller things.
If I had to name one draw-back of Chinzombo: it is located close to Mfuwe gate. It means that during the game drives you may see more other cars than further noth in the park, allthough we did enjoy the leopard kill with no other cars in sight for about an hour.
So we can strongly recommend Chinzombo. For us one of the better lodges we have seen in all our Africa trips.

Luxurious, well appointed lodge with amazing food, hosts, and attention to detail. Each private "cabin/tent" was beautifully appointed with old world safari desk, comfy chairs, full size king (or 2 twin beds which my kids had in theirs) soaking tub, double vanity shower, and beautiful lighting, the leather and canvas "closet" was perfect. Each "cabin" had its own dipping pool and lounge area for sitting outside to enjoy the views. Ben and Billy were so fun to talk to as were all the staff. Our safari guide Brian was awesome!

It was an exceptional luxurious camp in the wilderness of South Luangwa National Park. Staff are attention to details with warmest hospitality; guide is professional and yet very funny; food was delicious; the design of the lodge is just a real dream!!

A cosy indoor and outdoor communal area brings us the Norman Carr's stories in a modern and chic way. All of the tented suite are facing the Luangwa river filled with "happy hippos", who literally walk up in front of guests' tents to graze & waking us up in the morning :) Our own spacious balcony with private plunge pool in a descent size makes us want to just stay in and just watch the game from there.

We visited at the beginning of the dry season in early May, our game drives were relatively good - lions, hyena, leopard, zebra, Thornicroft's , elephants, Cookson's wildebeest...

Chinzombo is not a typical Zambian bush camps, it's contemporary and more luxurious. It was a perfect mixture for us to combine with another bush camps for the journey.
