Without a doubt, one of the highlights of our trip to Namibia. From the moment we were collected from the Airstrip the warm welcome that we received from all of the Hoanib staff was a large part of the reason that this camp is one of the best we have ever stayed at. The location is stunning, remote, epic, beautiful and unique. The rooms are luxurious, chic and extremely comfortable. But what really stands out is the professionalism and friendliness of all of the staff. Led from the front by the General Manager – Clement, who is a fantastic host, the team ensure that your every wish is catered for and it is all done with a friendly smile. It’s impossible to ask for much more! Each group of guests is assigned a guide for the duration of their stay, we were lucky enough to get Charles who was part of the team who set up the camp 2 and half years ago. Charles took us on drives in the dry river bed where we saw a desert lion, giraffe, elephants and baboons. We also had a fantastic day trip to the coast with a drive through the river bed and flood plains, through the dunes and ending up at the Skeleton Coast. On the way we had some fantastic spots including honey badgers, spotted eagle owl and a porcupine. Charles was an excellent and knowledgeable guide with the perfect balance of professionalism, friendliness and humour. I was genuinely gutted when it was time to leave the camp and hope to visit again really soon. Thanks so much to Imagine Africa for organising our fantastic trip to Namibia and ensuring that we were able to stay at this extremely popular camp. With only 8 rooms it is definitely advisable to book well in advance.

Thank you electricsparky for your wonderful review and high praises, we certainly do hope you will visit us again soon. We will be sure to pass along your kind regards to Clement, Charles and the entire Hoanib family. Sounds like you had some amazing sightings - including the illusive honey badger and hope you were able to get a couple of photos to match the memories.

Kind regards

If you go to Namibia, you need to include time here. From the moment you step onto the property, you are greeted with enthusiasm by Clement and his stellar staff. Not only is Clement immensely competent, he is intelligent and personable and charismatic. We were fortunate enough to spend many hours with our guide, Alpha. Again, not only knowledgeable, but possessing a personality and sense of humor that made the hours fly by. Being without cell service and the internet was a gift. The vistas were enthralling, the sundowners spectacular, and the company first-rate. The food was always great and Kuku and all the dining staff were a joy. We expected nothing on New Year's Eve and were impressed with the fabulous show and especially Kuku's enthusiasm. We were so sorry to leave but take with us memories that will never fade.

It's all there in previous 5 star excellent reviews and I find it hard to think of anything new to say.

A 3 night stay gave us time to sample most of the activities on offer. 3 nights gives you 2 full days together with the late afternoon on the day of arrival. We managed an evening drive in the Hoanib River bed, a longer drive east in the river bed, a fantastic drive to the Skeleton Coast coast for lunch with a flight back, and two evening walks. The walks were into the river bed itself, and a second one up the rocky hill immediately behind the camp, to the communications mast. Apparently not a lot of guests do that hill, but if you are reasonably fit and fancy a 30 or 40 minute scramble to the top then give it a go……. you end up on the top of the world!! The walks are always accompanied by a guide.

The animals are not so used to vehicles as they are in the likes of Etosha. So you maybe don't get quite as close to some. Although we did get some fairly close great views of elephants. We saw lions too and a great view of a caracal, which is not a common sighting an we were really pleased to add that to our list. It's not a regular sighting at Hoanib though.

For serious photographers, a 400mm lens at least is required, and if you have a 500 or 600mm then all the better. But keep a 70-200mm handy just in case things get closer. And a full frame sensor is best, given you will probably end up cropping the image as you are not getting that close. And make sure you have good cleaning kit with you as it does get dusty in this arid semi desert. I took two bodies and tried to limit changing lenses as much as possible.

Be prepared for 5.30am starts to make the most of the days. Both our full days were early starts…. but so worth it.

Food and service are superb. Wilderness Safaris really appreciate the importance of great service, done with a smile, and it's much appreciated. The dining area is modern and clean. The guides are really helpful and knowledgable as you'd expect. They all get good reviews, but we were very pleased to spend time with Chris and Gaylord.

** We'd go back in a flash…… and would consider staying longer and doing all the activities more than once, to be honest. It was amazingly terrific!

We have also reviewed other Wilderness Safaris Camps at Serra Cafema, Doro Nawas and Desert Rhino…… all excellent but so different to each other.

We spent 3 nights here and I can't think of a single aspect to criticise - the staff are all so nice, keen to help and the setting is spectacular. We had lovely stay and enjoyed socialising with other guests, it's a very special place and we would highly recommend it. Our guide was Papa G, he was friendly and very knowledgeable - but we know from speaking with other guests that the other guides were equally good. It's not cheap but it was definitely worth the visit - thanks to all of the Hoanib staff for making it so special.

The title says it all and the rating confirms it. This is wilderness. The tents are luxury tents with all mod cons other than air conditioning tv and wifi. That is all the negatives out of the way. The staff are tremendous, helpful and courteous. The guides know their stuff. The manager Clement is a live wire, friendly and keeps the team going. The kitchen does a superb job, remembering that you are in the desert. No air con is a bit of a shock at first until you realise that the air flows keep you cool and the overnight temperatures drop to a very comfortable sleeping temperature. No wifi turns out to be a pleasant break from the outside world. TV, well who cares. In the evenings before dinner, guests sit around a camp fire watching bush tv as the waiters run back and forth with drinks. What a break from the world. What a wonderful remote venue and a great experience. Thank you to Clement and his team of superstars.
