I highly recommend this to everyone looking for a unique experience in the bush, in conservation, or just a place to go and connect with nature, relax, get out of your head, and sample this little piece of paradise.
The lodge, the staff, the food, and the experience are amazing. I give it five stars for the locals on the ground. Harris, my fantastic guide; Talent, my host; Ben, my special room attendant; Lemon, the maitre-d & waiter, but more than that. He ensured that every meal was tailored to me and my needs.
You fly here and then have nothing to worry about. Everything is taken care of for you but personalized for how you wish to spend your days. Game drives, fishing, walking, and boating are all included.
It’s a small lodge, and everyone knows your name! That’s the beauty of Bumi Hills.
The kitchen and food are delish. The chef definitely knows how to cater to a diverse crowd with stunningly fresh, local, yet internationally-tailored meals. There is something for everyone. He is world-class.
On the flip side, they had their foundation meeting, and their aviation staff met here.
There were so many additional people who were non-paying guests.
These guys took over the place and made for a less personal experience for me.
The common areas, two lounges, and one restaurant accommodate 10-12 rooms, so it’s not exactly a large area.
I couldn’t use the common areas to relax in quiet, access the internet and WhatsApp, make calls, or catch up with friends abroad. I had to relax in my room without the internet, which was confining.
If they are to mix guests and non-paying partners, they need to arrange different areas for the workers to congregate. They also need to arrange decent WIFI in the rooms. I understand that five years ago, it was commonplace to restrict WIFI, but in this day and age, it is necessary to stay connected.
For this reason, I would rate BUMI 4.5 stars.
