Arrived at Male airport and waited 20 min for a portable lift (8'x20' open-air lift) to unload the non-ambulatory person in our group. Waited 15 min strapped on to the aisle chair while they located our personal wheelchair. Be patient. Went across the street to the speedboat pick-up area. Three men from Kurumba resort lifted our wheelchair user and his manual wheelchair on to the boat. Have faith. He was able to transfer on to the padded bench on to the speed boat. The 10 min ride is fast, bumpy and fun. We stayed in room 140 which is a beachfront bungalow. Hotel staff put a ramp (50" long, 42" wide, 30 degrees) over the steps. Room door width is 30". Bed ht is 25". Bath door width is 29". Toilet area is enclosed on 3 sides, has 37.5" opening and a 1.75" drop-down step. Toilet ht is 17". Sink knee clearance 24", depth 7". Outdoor shower is roll-in 40"x37". Beach wheelchair floats in the water! It was wonderful. The spa has a step to access, but can be maneuvered. The gym and pools are not wheelchair accessible. Most restaurants are wheelchair accessible. Staff are more than happy to help. Cooking demo is excellent: food, wine, fresh coconut water. But I would recommend eating and drinking only boiled/cooked items. Bring oral rehydration powder just in case. Mosquito wrist bands worked well to prevent bites. Watch fish off the deep end of the pier. Glass bottom boat not recommended for those prone to motion sickness.

Room tip: Might want to ask about a room that faces away from Male.

We had a fabulous 2 weeks in a deluxe bungalow, suited us perfectly in a palm shaded grove just back from the beach. Loved the room and its bathroom open to the skies. Adam looked after us extremely well keeping it spotlessly clean. Not being big eaters or drinkers, we went on a bed and breakfast basis so therefore had the choice of all the restaurants. Tried all apart from the Japanese and had excellent food and service in each, so good I can't pick a favourite. Ate mostly in the evening in the cafe with a great welcome each time especially from Mirah and the team - Ram, Amjad, Noor, Panichu and Lahfan. Breakfast in the buffet was plentiful and again, a lovely warm welcome each day from Aseela and Bee. Ahmed seemed to be everywhere and again, a really pleasant young man to have a conversation with along with Fulhu who supervises the gardeners. In fact every member of staff were polite, warm and welcoming but you can't name them all. The island is spotless and well kept, can be strolled around in about 25 mins (if you don't stop at the 2 beach bars!), Mina at Athiri 1 is especially welcoming. We snorkeled everyday and saw fascinating fish, loads of sharks, a couple of porcupine rays and even got to swim with a large turtle one day. We had read in previous reviews about the proximity to Male but the benefit was the extremely short transfer, the air traffic was unobtrusive and at night was just a lot of lights on the horizon. Had a great time and thanks to all.

Dear Anthony, we are pleased with such a great review and very excited you had fantastic time here in the Maldives. Certainly we are delighted that we got all the things right.
The team spent a considerable amount of time focusing on the small details that make the difference and we are pleased to read that you cannot wait to return. We thank you for your stay and hope it will not be too long before we get to welcome you back again in the future.

When booking our trip to the Maldives, due to the limited vacation time we had, we were looking for somewhere that was close to the airport yet still provided us with the unique Maldives experience. Kurumba provided us with exactly what we needed. Only ten minutes from the airport by speed boat, we stayed in a Superior Room where we had direct access to the beach. The room was clean, with an exquisite touch of modernity that did not detract from the natural paradise that surrounded us. We were able to enjoy activities such as snorkelling and tennis. We were also lucky enough to enjoy an evening with complimentary alcoholic beverages while watching the sunset over the water and interacting with the hotel staff and other hotel guests (one of several events put on by the hotel during the week). Our only regrets were not being able to enjoy more activities provided by the hotel (due to our limited time) and not purchasing the all inclusive deal at the time of booking (the beverages proved quite costly when purchased individually). Being one of the oldest resorts in the Maldives, Kurumba has definitely not lost it's charm!

After reading a lot of reviews in TripAdvisor we were like KURUMBA is "THE" place we were looking for in maldives. The resort is very clean , well maintained . We had opted for Superior Bungalow which was really good , spacious enough , clean. The staff at kurumba are always smiling and make you feel very nice. The beach is also very well maintained. The breakfast buffet was really too good . Rest of the food for lunch and dinner is also fine. Specially to mention Aseela helped us a lot in getting the veg food for which we requested for everyday. But water activities/sports are expensive we felt. We do get a free wifi . All in all we had an awesome stay !! And definitely we will visit Kurumba again . Kudos to the whole Team of KURUMBA !!
