Excellent proximity to wildlife

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 20 Oct 2019
In our three-camp journey, Chobe under canvas is the least of the luxury kind because it is a mobile camp. So coming with it are the natural inconveniences - lack of running water (which they do comp with a leather bucket overhead shower which surprisingly afforded a shampoo + shower for me and a shower for my husband, and a basin and water pitcher for washing face and such and plenty of bottled water to keep hydrated), no electricity (so bring battery power pack, or in the jeep, you can charge your phone up as there are two outlets in every row of seats, 3 flat-pin type), and certainly no wifi (but cellphone signals are surprisingly strong, so you can use one phone as a hotspot, and I was able to handle work emergency emails.) And in October, the hottest month of the year, it can get hot. But the enormous advantage is its proximity to the abundance of wild lives. After visiting the other two camps, looking back at Chobe experience, we certainly felt Chobe offered the most sighting, the variety of animals, the easiness of spotting them. If you stay at Chobe for two nights, the tour operator offer a Pangolin river trip as a complimentary activity which is excellent. Pangolin is a tour operator as well with a photo theme, so the boat is equipped with some really serious camera mounted on the structure and you can walk away with the SDHC card with your creative work stored on it.
Our guide Michael is a very sweet person and very knowledgeable and the camp manager Daniel is very kind and friendly. Of the three camps Chobe which has only 5 tents is the only one running a communal table, so people get to know each other pretty fast. While the staff cook everything on open fire, the meal is organized and delicious and balanced between green and meat.
Another thing to note and wish we had known before the trip is that all camps and each individual room is well stocked with room bug spray, mosquito spray, and all. One only needed to pack sun block. The sun exposure is rather limited because both the jeep and the Pangolin boat are covered with canvas.
So while our travel accommodation progressive become more comfortable, I still think Chobe is an experience to have, but to have it at the beginning of the trip, and two nights are probably meaningful but not to stretch the limit of comfort. And if you can avoid the hot month of October, all the better.
Overall, Chobe National Park is not to be missed. Okavango Delta which would be our next stop came with lots of chase and tracking to locate wild lives.

You arrive at a camp that is moved every few days so it disturbs the environment as little as possible. You are welcomed by an a Capella performance of 3-4 songs that is so fun! They do an incredible job of giving folks a five star experience in a most incredible national park that is the envy of everyone on the planet who knows about it. You haven't seen wildlife until you visit Botswana, and Chobe is extra special, huge, filled with animals, and protected!!!! Multitudes of animals are commonly seen, lions, elephants, giraffes, zebra, all sorts of deer, Botswana has 450 species of birds, what's not to like? You stay in tents with hot showers, flush toilets and VERY comfortable beds. Our guide Tony did his best to give us an excellent experience! What a great trip, fantastic location, incredible wildlife, exceptional service!!!! ALSO!!! Take the photo safari!!

Room tip: You're staying in a huge tent, private, well taken care of and extremely comfortable, toilets, and showers.

Great outdoors experience in Botswana! Easy access from Kasane. Allows you to stay in the park. Warmly greeted by entire staff every time we came into camp. Not as luxurious as some stationary tented camps but don't think one can do better with a mobile camp. Queen beds, solar/battery powered lamps, warm bucket showers after evening game drive, cooking done over an open fire. Although not a private reserve crowds rarely a problem. Bushveld similar to Kruger in Botswana but beautiful grasslands across the river in Namibia with large grazing herds of elephant, buffalo, and zebra. Overall a great wildlife experience seeing larger herds than South Africa, with everything except rhino. 5 star experience and accommodations!

We spent two days at the Chobe under Canvas Camp and enjoyed it very much. The comfort of the mobile safari tent exceeded our expectations in every sense, e.g. real bed, flush WC and hot bucket shower. Nevertheless the Camp provides for a quality experience on a life as close to nature as possible.Unforgettable the sounds of nature and animals during the night, the dining beneath open skies, and the morning and evening game drives. The staff was very friendly, responsive and helpful, and the game drive guide had good knowledge about flora and fauna, and enabled us to watch wildlife very closely. We also enjoyed the photographic boat cruise on the Choke River where we learnt a lot what means taking good pictures. The food always freshly prepared over open fire with great care was very good.
The stay at this tent camp was one of our big highlights of our Namibia/Botswana trip, and we thank the entire staff who made this wonderful experience possible for us.

Very comfortable tented accommodation where we were looked after and entertained by an excellent team of staff. The wildlife viewing was amazing. We enjoyed every minute of our 3 night stay. Only downside, as this is a National Park not a private concession, occasionally too many vehicles pitch up at a particular animal sighting.

We recently returned from our honeymoon where we spent the first leg at Chobe Under Canvas. This was nothing short of an incredible experience. We can't imagine the immense logistics behind such a camp setup in the middle of nowhere, but the staff at Chobe Under Canvas executed it flawlessly. The guides Tony and Innocent were incredible and knew so much about Botswana and all the wildlife, the food was amazing, and the experience was unforgettable. If you are considering a true safari experience, away from overwhelming hordes of tourists, go here! You are glamping and this is about as nice as you can get but still have that true camping experience/feel. If you are not adventurous stick with your local zoo. I really wouldn't give much credibility to any review that doesn't give this camp 5 stars. We had giraffes walk through our camp, how could it get any better? Everyone was so wonderful and it was the perfect adventure.
