Recently out with Ivanhoe Sea Safaris, as U.K. Tourists we couldn't recommend this company highly enough, we were told we might not see anything this time of year which we didn't but the staff more than made up for that. Highly informative, great fun, we can only say go with no expectations & your bucket will come back overflowing. Our son was out with this company whale watching a few years back, completely different time of year to us, he still highly speaks of it as if it were yesterday.

As locals, we were amazed that we had so much still to learn about the beautiful area in which we live. The knowledgeable Staff from Ivanhoe Sea Safaris shared information ranging from, the sights, caves & coastline of De Kelders, to facts & figures about the Marine Big 5, their interaction with each other & causes of the Africans' penguins decrease in numbers. This together with playing 'hide & seek' with Bryde's whales by observing their ' footprints' & waiting patiently closeby for them to surface, made for a wonderful afternoon outing. Finished off by the 'cherry on the top' of excellent local wines & cheeses & romantic sunset. Thank you for a most memorable Sunset cruise. Adrian & Estelle Swanepoel, Hermanus

I suspected that I had left it too late in the season, and I was also warned by the tour operator that there are unlikely to be whale sightings, but we decided to go anyway at a very much reduced price. We toured with 2 kids and the skippers were great at explaining about the area and marine life. We saw marine birds, sea lions and a penguin. I loved the sea air and it was fun to be out in the bay and experience the wildness of the ocean. We loved it! The sea air did me a lot of good and I had the best sleep in years that night! The boat has an upper deck and this was a really fun experience. I will go back next year to see if we are lucky to spot some whales.

it was a bad season for the whales when we went on the cruise. but the staff did all they could to take us to the best spot to see whales and sharks. and even if the season was almost over, we were able to see a baby shark, an adult shark and 2 whales. yes i was expecting to see a whale from near but they where far and didn't want to approach so all we saw was their back. but the staff gave really good explanations all the way about everything concerning marine life.
and they were very helpful with the sick passengers even after the cruise.
they even took us to see the penguins and the seals.
I was disappointed not to see the whales from near but very impressed with the efficacy of the team to

We booked a Whale Trip with Ivanhoe, but due to circumstances beyond their control we were never able to go. They sent us an email letting us know that there weren't any whales in the area, and that they were closing the whale season early instead of disappointing their clients. They offered to still take us out for a very reduced price or to give us a full refund. We opted for a refund, which they processed very quickly.

The thing about wild animals is that they are unpredictable. And if there aren't any whales in the area, that is not something the company can control. If you want guaranteed animals, go to Sea World. Considering the circumstances, Ivanhoe did everything they could to rectify the situation, and we found the way that they handled it to be very professional. If we ever get a chance to visit South Africa again, I would not hesitate to book a whale trip with Ivanhoe again.
