Biggest diversity of aquatic life you will find anywhere in the world. From frog fish, paperfish, nudis to humpback whales, whale sharks and much more. Friendly staff, great vibe. Good viz most of the time, even with an average viz you will still have an amazing dive!!

My family and I stayed at Rocktail Camp, and it was fantastic that Mokarran is immediately adjacent. Staff from the dive center come to your dinner table to book the "ocean adventure" or diving excursions for the next day--very convenient. My family did the ocean adventure where you take a boat to see dolphins or whales and then head back to the beach for a catered breakfast. Please note that while the Ocean Adventure is exhilarating and we did see and swim with over 20 dolphins, it is not for the faint of heart. The waves can be quite large, and it is difficult to get into the inflatable boat from the beach and from the water. Once Darryl spotted the dolphins, he gave the go ahead and Sam and all of us jumped into the waves with our snorkels and fins that were provided by Mokarran. We saw a group of 20 dolphins swimming and jumping--truly amazing. I personally struggled to get back into the boat and thankfully Darryl helped me out.

A few days later, I rented full equipment and went on two dives (Elusive and Aerial) with Michelle as guide and Clive as our driver. We boarded the same boats, but the waves were smaller and by this time I had figured out how to get in with a bit less help.

I have dived at the great barrier reef, Maldives, and in Spain, but on these dives, I saw much more diversity of marine life. I am not an overly experienced diver and Michelle did a good job explaining the dive site and the dive plan. She pointed out a number of interesting creatures underwater, and as a result, discovered that I have some work to do on my underwater sign language. :-) I have not mastered my air management so hit 50 bar and surfaced before the others in the group. Both times, Clive had caught a large fish while we were diving--a tuna and a mackerel. Between dives we had a fantastic breakfast catered by Rocktail Camp. Wow, was there a lot of food and it was delicious!

Clive, Michelle, Darryl and Sam were great hosts and I would definitely recommend an excursion with them.

We had an amazing week staying at Rocktail and diving with Mokarran on the north coast of Kwazulu Natal South Africa. Super professional team - they looked after us really well, safety conscious, very friendly and really made effort to point out lots of critters. They even served us breakfast on the dune overlooking the empty beach and magnificent sea while whales breached on the horizon. The reefs are spectacular and pristine in this protected reserve - Tons of life! Even saw a humpback whale and her calf cruising by at the safety stop. Their rental gear is in great condition, big spacious dingie / zodiac, comfortable facilities. All round a world class experience - thank you for a memorable time!

Had the best 4 dives with Mokarran. Great dive centre in a most unique location. Great eye for detail, very professional instructor and dive master, excellent skipper. Amazing underwater fauna and flora. Dived with humpback whales, sharks and saw so much more. Highly recommended. Go in August when the whales migrate.

Mokarran staff and dive experience not only compares, but in mist instances it is far superior to anything found anywhere else in the world. Competent friendly dive masters, brilliant skippers and well maintained equipment. The reefs are awesome and secluded.
