This is a first class hotel and resort property that needs just a few tweeks to get it right.
Property is fabulous and well maintained. Staff was personable and helpful at every step. The valet parking is awkward since the lot is so small but I guess that's the only way to guarantee a spot with all the groups they seem to get. Our room was fabulous, but the location was an unfortunate choice on one of the days we were there. Ready to enjoy a coolish evening on the balcony overlooking the grounds after a hard hiking day, we came home to a reception of about a hundred well behaved but noisy touring motorcyclist on the main patio directly bellows us. Oh well shut the drapes and go out to dinner. We didn't have enough time to fully utilize the $25 per day "resort" fee they charge but the pool and workout are looked lovely. The website for El Monte does not give you good enough info on the available casitas and rooms available. When we go back we will definitely opt for the more secluded area and the privacy of the casitas on property.

Room Tip: Do not get a balcony overlooing the patio

After a road trip full of chain hotels, this was a delightful experience. The staff was very good. Dinner recommendations, called to make our reservations for us and they remembered our names throughout our stay. I would highly recommend it! Design of gardens and ponds on the grounds were beautiful and tranquil. The hot tub and pool area, beautiful with plants inside the area. The fire pit at night was the perfect way to wind down with a nightcap!

Had a relaxing stay on this beautiful campus-complete with chickens! The pool and hot tub area had a beautiful botanical garden, the room was decorated well with a fridge and robes, etc. we grabbed a beer at the bar and enjoyed being able to walk into town for a concert. This would be an awesome place to host a party or wedding. We will splurge next time to stay in one of the themed casitas.

Dear Karen N
Thank you for the review, the Chickens adopted us and we have relocated them to a farm near by but they were interesting. The grounds and gardens are very peaceful and you are correct we do upwards of 60 weddings per year.

thank you for your kind review and we look forward to seeing you again,

Warmest Regards

We had to change our Honeymoon plans at the last minute because of a forest fire. We chose the El Monte Sagrado in Taos and boy were we impressed! The staff, all of them, were so personable and nice. We also got a surprise champagne bottle sent to our room after check in. The entire hotel is decorated with amazing NM design. The grounds were immaculate, from flowers to trees to little water ponds and fish. The Suite we stayed in had a porch that faced the sacred circle and a little pond. We had a couples massage and it was a-maz-ing!!! Melissa and Nancy really are experts at massage. From food to service to valet to comfort, we give the El Monte Sagrado 5 stars! We will be returning!

Room Tip: Can look online for room pics, they are all very nice!

Dear Gretchen G
I am so happy you chose El Monte for your honeymoon. Our staff all work very hard and I am happy you noticed the effort. The spa is truly world class facility. We hope the memory will last a lifetime and you will renew it each year.

Warmest Regards.

This hotel was a major disappointment...one problem was that it felt dirty. The staff was poorly trained AND our "premier 1BR suite" was far from the major building. All that is not the main issue, what was the main problem was that the floors were so uneven that if I had a marble and dropped it at one end of the room that marble would roll [by its self] so fast to the other end it would be a blur. The 'premier" room's walls were showing signs for decay...yes, decay. The walls near the bottom of the very uneven floor was pealing and has some kind of mold. Overall save your money and go closer to town.

The grounds were pretty and even

Dear dtroutte

Thank you for the review, the premier suite has concrete floors that provide the heat in the winter, The style of the rooms is not for everyone, but adobe is rougher than the drywall finish you see in modern homes.

I am sorry you are disappointed with the room, your comments are important to us and we will review the room closely.

warmest regards,

John Rickey
