The journey from Johannesburg was long, but on arrival at Lakeside it was forgotten! There were animals in the bush as we drove in to the Lodge area and then started a week of so many sightings and close ups of animals. The elephants came to visit the Lodge twice, and the vervet monkeys kept us entertained with their biscuit pinching antics.
The rooms are clean and comfortable, well looked after by the lovely staff. The food was plentiful, and the sponge puddings some the best I have had. The Kudu stew was good, and whilst being similar food on most days you can vary it easily. The bar had a good mix of drinks and the barmen soon got to know what you liked.
My thanks must go to our rangers, we spent the week with Marco who pointed out animals and birds that we could hardly see! His knowledge was amazing, as was that of Solly and Isaac who were the other rangers in our group. We saw lions, cheetah, Rhino, elephants, giraffe, to name but a few, but we all laughed at the warthogs running along with their tails in the air.
Ok there was no boat trip and the spa was not available, but there was so much to see that we would have been hard to fit them in! Five of us paid for an extra game drive and Marco did not disappoint us, being close to feeding lions is quite an experience.
I had a dream to visit Africa and it was more than I could have hoped, I can't wait to go back
