Lovely Setting, Good Food, for a Short Break From City Rush

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 15 Apr 2017
Beautiful location up against a lake (dam), with rooms well spread - allowing you to lie and listen to nothing but peace and quiet and the beautiful noises of the African bush.

Food was really tasty and good and service was always helpful and with a smile. Found the staff to be really good.

The Entebeni game reserve itself is separated into two - an upper section on top of the (Waterberg) escapement and a lower section below on the plains.

The two sections are separated by fence, not allowing the predators (Lions and Cheetahs) up on the top section. Strange in a way but it seems to be to allow the visiting internationals to have a better chance of seeing the predators in the short window they have at the park.

This does make the top section a little "boring" after you've seen it and have realised that there are no predators there, but still very pretty and we were taken to the top of the mountains for sunset drinks the one evening, which was really beautiful.

You take a really interesting little pass to get down to the plains, which is a truly beautiful location with the Waterberg Mountains in the background.

Our ranger was friendly and very interesting in terms of his knowledge of trees and plants, stopping and sharing some really interesting facts that you wouldn't normally be exposed to.

The only criticism we would have: In line with the conveyor belt of trying to get the visiting international tourists to see everything in a short window, we did however find the rangers a little "rushed", which does take away from the experience of enjoying and being out in the beautiful African bush.

Room Tip: Choose a room away from main reception to really experience complete peace and quiet.

From the get go, service was impeccable! We stayed for just one night. The food was plentiful, although it would have been nice to experience some game meat for dinner. Nonetheless, dinner was still satisfying. The view and room itself was outstanding! And the park itself - you can not get more beautiful viewpoints! Breathtaking!! We so look forward to coming back soon.

Room tip: Ask for the rooms closer to the reception with a great view of the Lake.

The journey from Johannesburg was long, but on arrival at Lakeside it was forgotten! There were animals in the bush as we drove in to the Lodge area and then started a week of so many sightings and close ups of animals. The elephants came to visit the Lodge twice, and the vervet monkeys kept us entertained with their biscuit pinching antics.
The rooms are clean and comfortable, well looked after by the lovely staff. The food was plentiful, and the sponge puddings some the best I have had. The Kudu stew was good, and whilst being similar food on most days you can vary it easily. The bar had a good mix of drinks and the barmen soon got to know what you liked.
My thanks must go to our rangers, we spent the week with Marco who pointed out animals and birds that we could hardly see! His knowledge was amazing, as was that of Solly and Isaac who were the other rangers in our group. We saw lions, cheetah, Rhino, elephants, giraffe, to name but a few, but we all laughed at the warthogs running along with their tails in the air.
Ok there was no boat trip and the spa was not available, but there was so much to see that we would have been hard to fit them in! Five of us paid for an extra game drive and Marco did not disappoint us, being close to feeding lions is quite an experience.
I had a dream to visit Africa and it was more than I could have hoped, I can't wait to go back

Room tip: People liked the 40, 50 and 60 room numbers as they had better views of the lake.

Wonderful location. Rangers Solly, Isaac and especially Marco our ranger went out of their way to make sure we saw as many animals as possible on our game drives. Some very early morning starts, but well worth it. Rangers and all lodge staff looked after us very well. The food was good and plentiful and always served with a smile. Our first safari experience and certainly won't be our last.
