Put "safari" on your bucket list, and go to Simbavati to do it. It is really the wildlife that makes the experience, and that is somewhat a matter of luck. We saw elephants, lions, buffalo, zebra, impala, water bucks and other antelope, and giraffes and so many birds. You may see more or less. But Simbavati Hilltop Lodge makes it a delight either way. Guide staff and house staff are all are both highly competent and very friendly. They pamper their guests.
We were first time safariers, but other guests were veterans. That is a very good sign for a lodge. Take malaria precautions and ignore all the other insects. Tell the staff what you want and you get it. Enjoy!
Tips: Simbavati Hilltop and River Lodges are sister properties. River is more popular for families. Hilltop is classier for couples. Game drives are the same. Free transfer from Hoedspruit airport is worth $100 each way, and Colin arranges it, and all other travel issues, with expertise. A three day stay is ideal.
Tents that are closest to the river take a lot of steps (I counted 98) to get to breakfast. That’s great exercise, but tell them if it is a problem for you.
