It has it all. All the animals that you ever dreamed of, the best staff you can imagine, wonderful rooms and great quality food and drinks. This is absolutely world-class standard place to see all the animals and the guides are amazingly helpful and give you many interesting facts about the animals in the area. We managed to see the big 5 in 2 days. I highly recommend this place and would return in a heartbeat.

We stayed at Simbavati for 4 nights at the end of our honeymoon in SA and it was a fabulous end to a great trip.

The first thing to say is that the staff absolutely make this place what it is. They went out of their way to make our stay special. Our butler Aubrey, made us cry with laughter every day but the star of the show was our guide Colbert. If you are lucky enough to have him as your guide, you are in for a treat! His knowledge, enthusiasm and passion made each drive a treat and his catchphrases are still making us smile!

We were fortunate enough to see all of the big 5, but we also saw girrafe, hyenas, wilderbeast, hippos, a crocodile and even a black mamba (thankfully from the safety of the jeep!) to name a few. I would stress that the trackers and guides really know what they are doing and work as a team with all the others within the reserve so even when a drive seems quiet, be patient, they will find something interesting to see!

We stayed in December (summer) and over the 4 days we had glorious sunshine, heavy rain and strong winds, so be prepared for all weathers! Its also definitely worth doing a bush walk, for an alternative view to being in the jeep.

A fantastic experience, thank you!!

Towards the middle of our honeymoon we headed to the north eastern part of South Africa by Kruger National Park for our safari. Our stay at Simbavati Hilltop was just luxurious and out-of-this world. We were greeted by Nanzdi the office manager whom took us to orientation and then introduced us to our butler, Andrew who looked after us for the entire trip. Meals were INCREDIBLE, gourmet and made-from scratch in house by their wonderful chefs. Every meal from breakfast to dinner is a delightful surprise and usually with dessert too! I enjoyed how their dinners alternated between communal "braais" (aka barbecue) in a traditional sandy environment with upscale setting to intimate dinners in their dining area with your private party. I felt I got to know the other guests well during the braais and game drives. Staff and other guests were very friendly. Game drives were fun, exciting and we were always lead by the incredible Joe. Did I mention that during the braais your game drive guide also dines with you? Animal experience was great, saw the Big 5, animals came near our tents often but we always felt safe. Please enjoy some of my photos!

Another reviewer did mention the dam work, yes that is not ascetically appealing however, your game drives and meals are not spent in that area. I do agree it is a consideration given the amount of money you spend, you want the best view for everything. You can always check if they are done for your stay. It is being re-built since the walls broke a couple of years ago. It did not bother us. Other note is we recommend you staying at another lodge just to get 2 different experiences of safari. Very common for those going on safari! Enjoy!

Overall location, facilities service, game view were really top notch.

However, the ongoing (and temporary) work on the dike nearby is really bringing down the level of "magic" you expect from the place. Yes, taking a bath in your luxurious tent in the bush, overlooking a river, is indeed a fantastic experience. Hearing (and seeing) caterpillar trucks and construction workers while doing so is less so... if you spend 500 USD a night for a hotel room without blinking an eye, then it doesn t really matter and you will enjoy the place despite this. If it s one of a lifetime occasion, then you might want to look for an alternative until this work is ongoing.

Dear David P

We apologise for the builders inconveniencing your stay at our lodge. We did offer all guests compensation during their stay to make up for this.

We wish you would have told us that you were not happy with the compensation we offered so that we could have looked into an alternative option for you. Other guests were raving about the compensation in previous posts and they did not find the construction to be disruptive.

Again I am so sorry that you felt that our lodge let you down. We do and did try our best to provide you with outstanding service and a memorable stay.

I will pass on your review to management so that they are aware of your comments to ensure that other guests do not feel the same.

We hope you will come back and visit our lodge again when the dam is complete so that you can enjoy the value of what this dam will bring to the area for plants, animals and the lodges in the area.

Keep well, regards Nadine

Where do I start, upon arriving at Simbivati we were greeted by Nandzi who was very welcoming and were greeted with wet towels to freshen up with and we went straight for a lunch on the decking before having our welcome meeting. We then went down to our room which was massively luxurious, could not fault one bit of the accommodation.

We were there for 3 full days and 7 fantastic game drives, the experience was memorable for many reasons but I have to say for me and my new wife, our holiday was made very special by a few individuals. Colbert and Derrick were our guide and spotters and they were fantastic, brimming with personality humour and a can do attitude to everything we asked, they were hugely knowledgeable about everything we asked, without these two our holiday would not have been the same. We also had a trainee spotter Elvis who was due to go for his spotting exam on our last day, we hope he passed his exam!?!?

On our game drives we saw EVERYTHING apart from Wildebeest, several lion kills included.

The food was fantastic, we tried Venison, Kudu and much more. The highlight was sitting in a group for a Barbecue with our guide, although it would have been nice if our spotter got to sit with us as well, we spend just as much time with him.

On our last night, we had a stunning candlelit dinner away from our main group, a bottle of champagne and then Aubrey came and gave us a speech and some words of advice on a successful marriage from someone who has been married for many years, this was amazing and summed up The Simbivati experience, personal and caring.

We cant wait to go back, Colbert, I think "We will make a plan" :)

Room Tip: They are all fantastic
