We stayed at 4 camps in South Africa on this trip, and Tanda Tula was our definite favorite. The camp itself is welcoming and very comfortable; staff welcoming and helpful; grounds well maintained and situated; and the tents, if you really want to call them that, amazing – overall deserving of its great rating. However, you cannot separate accommodations from food and activities at these camps, and, although the food is excellent, it is in the activities that Tanda Tula excelled above the others in our minds. Tanda Tula does an excellent job of time management. We had the standard morning and evening safaris where our excellent host and guide were able to locate amazing wildlife sightings that were beyond our wildest hopes. Not only did we learn about those animals, but we were given a greater understanding of animal and plant relationships in this environment. The camp gives you a morning wakeup call with coffee and the traditional sundowner stops for drinks. The food for these activities was the best we had at all 4 camps. The difference in this camp was that breakfast was served at a remote location and guests were allowed to hike back to camp with their guides if they so chose. What a wonderful way to get some exercise, see additional wildlife, and learn more about the environment. And we got back to camp in time to freshen up and relax before a wonderful lunch overlooking the waterhole at the camp site. We never felt that we were rushed at this camp, but we also never felt that we were confined either. The vehicles that went out on safari were not crowed – there were never more than 5 in any of the vehicles – and all the guests were thrilled with their guides and trackers!

And we would be remiss not addressing the food. Lunches were served as a buffet, and dinner was served as a sit down dinner. The chef was excellent and the food choices varied from day to day. The wine list was extensive and it was here that we were recommended to our new favorite South African winery, Rust en Vrede.

Thank you for such a wonderful review.

We are extremely fortunate to live in a reserve that offers such wildlife diversity.

We are really pleased to hear you enjoyed our bush breakfast as this is a big favourite for many of our guests. Just the other day we had a few elephants join us briefly before moving on (our rangers of course made sure everyone was safe!). Taking a walk back to camp certainly helps burn off the breakfast!

We will pass on your appreciation to Chef Ryan and as for Rust en Vrede, does it get much better!

We stayed three nights at Tanda Tula. The chef, Ryan, is a delight and his food is beautiful, some local venison to try, nicely balanced cuisine and food experience. The breakfast camp is a wonderful idea. Scotch and Sam our team in the safari truck were number one. Ask Scotch about the birds, he knows so much. The tents are way more than a tent. This was our second of three Safari camps in South Africa. Each camp was different and amazing in its own way. Sundowners each night at a different and beautiful location. Looking forward to returning.

Simply superb in every way. Service with a smile and genuine passion go a long way to making a great safari. Excellent food, very comfortable lodgings, first class guides. Tough to find a fault. We spent one night in the "star bed" - highly recommended for those who are looking for something different.

Room tip: Spend one night on the "star bed"

Hi Simon

We thoroughly enjoyed having you and Lizz in camp. We are really excited about the new star bed experience, so this feedback is fantastic.

Hopefully we'll see you both again in the near future.

All the best,

Words cannot express how fabulous our experience at Tanda Tula was. The staff was amazing and friendly. The rangers and guides were extremely experienced. We always saw amazing animals on our game drives, including the big 5, and learned a lot about the animals and nature from ranger and guide. We saw many animals at our camp, but there was no fear to be had. The tents were great, with electricity and plumbing. The food exceeded expectations. It was eating fine dining for every meal. I would recommend to all.

Tanda Tula was outstanding. The staff at Tanda Tula were some of the nicest people we've met on our travels. The food was 5 star, everything we ate tasted great. The game viewing was very good. The camp had wildlife coming in and out all day long. The tents were nice and very comfortable. At night, the beds were heated. You cannot walk around the camp at night without an armed guard. Tanda Tula had the right mix of ruggedness and luxury.
