We were lucky and saw all of the Big 5 including four leopards, thanks to our tracker Orise and ranger Lucia. Lucia is passionate and knowledgable about her work, her enthusiasm helped to make our visit special.
Game drives leave early every morning but it is so exciting that getting up early wasn't a problem! Three nights seemed like the perfect stay length.
Food was plentiful, breakfast and lunch seemed better than the dinners.
We had luxury suite #10 (which had an odd odor) with its own plunge pool. The pool water was a little too cold to use but we loved lounging by the pool and enjoyed the animals that hung around our pool deck.

We knew the concept to see the animals, but found the guides to be more informative then we expected, and our expectations were not low!! Our guide (and most others) sat with us at dinner and we were able to get some candid local views.
And then the FOOD was Great. Maybe it was being outside a of and keeping busy, but....
Morning coffee and pastries, 6AM then the Safari ride.
Full Breakfast buffet with an Omelet bar 9AM
Lunch Buffet with some kind a 'custom' entree at 1PM
High Tea with Pastries 3PM before Safari Ride
Dinner buffet with multiple meats cooked and cut in front of you. 7PM with some entertainment from the staff most evenings......
AND on each Safari ride, you took a break, more tea and finger food in the AM and HAPPY HOUR and Finger food on the evening Ride.

Friendly staff. GREAT Spa with the only negative that it was at another camp (there were 4 I believe) but then of course saw more animals on the ride between camps!
SIGN up for a Ranger led WALK. You actually get to walk through the bush (yes they carry a rifle.....) with more information then you will ever remember....
AND the rooms were spacious with a Large walk in shower and dual sinks at the vanity. Maybe it was the time of the year we went but barely saw a bug, except maybe the Dung Beetle pushing its prize (got some great pictures, think nature Channel)....

Highly recommended!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stayed for 4 days and 3 nights between trips to Cape Town and Victoria Falls. Had a great time. The Game drives were fun and we saw the big Five plus many more. Carlos and Jacob were exceptional tracker and guide. Loved the made for order omelettes at breakfast. Lunch was good. The dinner was not impressive, but OK for buffet. You will not go hungry here as you are fed about 6 six times. Charged for drinks, but not excessive and juices were included for breakfast. We were in a standard suite and size was fine. Bed Comfortable. Only issue is walls are not insulated and we could hear people a couple of times, but really was fine. The Service and Staff went out of the way to make it enjoyable. Would definitely return.

This was our first African safari, and it was great. The Southern Camp entrance is directly opposite the airport so you are immediately in safari mode, animals nearby, on the 20 min drive to the camp. The routines are good, two drives a day, leaving time for visiting the elephant and endangered species centres, the lovely spa. Staff are very friendly and helpful, the food is (overly) plentiful and generally very good. We saw plenty of animals - the leopards were elusive, but all other Big 5 were there, as well as many others. A great experience from the animal viewing to mixing with other travellers in a very beautiful setting.
Down side: I booked a 30 min total body exfoliation: only 20 mins of treatment time and the therapist did not do the backs of my legs. I followed this with an hour long massage, which finished 10 minutes early - very disappointing.
Avoid Room 19 - it stinks. Notice another reviewer had the same experience. Our room cleaner said she would fix the drain. It isn't the drain, the water cascades out of the shower to the end of the bathroom, collects and smells terribly damp. I told reception and she said, ah yes, we think we might reconfigure the whole room. No-one should stay in it until they do, felt very disappointed as we paid good money to stay there. I have rated the overall experience 4, but the room would be a 0 if I could

Room Tip: Definitely not 19 - it stinks!

At the end of our 3-week South African adventure, we stayed at Kapama Southern Camp for 4 days/3 nights. All of our camps during those 3 weeks had something magical about them, but at Southern Camp, we had the excitement of seeing all of the Big 5. Southern Camp is beautiful, and the accommodations are absolutely stunning. We loved watching the kudus and nyalas roam the camp, and the staff went above and beyond to accommodate our needs. We thoroughly enjoyed dinners in the Boma with our Ranger and the other visitors who shared our vehicle on game drives. It was a great way to make personal connections. There are two game drives/day, and our Ranger, Philip, and Tracker, Kenneth, were knowledgeable about the animals and the Preserve. Our final game drive at Kapama Southern Camp was our last one before heading home, and the only thing we hadn't seen were lionesses with cubs. Philip and Kenneth went out of their way to find a group of 2 lionesses and 4 cubs - our trip was complete! We had a wonderful time at Kapama Southern Camp and will definitely return!
