I truly loved this place and Leigh's hospitality. I was a solo Adventures and artist so the accommodations were just right for me. I loved the peacefulness of the location, coffee on the shed porch, and travels to Chimayo, Bandolier National Monument, weaving cooperatives, and artist areas. I loved walks to the river too. I plan to return soon.
We came to Espanola to study New Mexican weaving traditions in the region. Leigh's place had everything we needed, including a washer and dryer, which was great, since we were traveling for nine days. The house is rustic, filled with her weavings, books and collected pieces, which is part of what makes the experience. There is a wildlife sanctuary nearby, as well as walkable neighborhood roads, though dogs bark, they stay on their own properties. Leigh was helpful and available as needed. She is a talented weaver and designer, and a great host!
Great stay, peaceful.Laid back and roomy Easy to locate, close to major road but far enough away to be quiet
The outside is rustic, the ceilings are low, the rooms are all on different levels so we were always stepping up or down, the decor was eclectic in the extreme and we absolutely loved it! If you want ordinary, bland and sterile, go to a motel. This is a lot more fun.
This wonderful place isn't for everyone - if you're looking for a four star hotel with all that entails, this isn't it. But if you want a place with all the flavor of the region, privacy and beautiful vistas and the feeling of being part of New Mexico - this is your kind of place. The hosts are lovely and the living space is funky and creative and very much imbued with a New Mexican vibe. It comes with a just what you need in a minimal kitchen so you're not tied to eating out. Wi-Fi, cable tv, and a spacious common living area provide just enough of the outside world to make you feel at home. It's right in between Taos and Santa Fe so quick days trips are easy and hassle free. It really is in a perfect location for exploring what NM has to offer. One of the hosts is an artist and you definitely see her influence all around the property. There are two resident dogs who will escort you in and out of the driveway and while we were there, the gentleman of the house was putting in a massive vegetable garden. All of this made for an experience where we felt like we were living in the region for a week. And that was simply lovely!
