Had the best time in Villa Cahaya. We had initially planned to stay 3 nights but extended our stay to 7 nights. Tika was extremely helpful and lovely our entire stay, she happily organized a day trip to Ubud and an airport pick up for us at a great price. The water filter was a great touch. Air con was great, cooled the room down well and wasn’t too noisy. The cleaning service was great each day! Only con is the lack of privacy/door in the bathroom.
Thanks for a great stay!
I stayed at Villa Cahaya, a private pool villa rental in Seminyak (although some places advertise it as Kuta, Bali). It is a part of the Ilot Bali Residences. I stayed for 1 week between the end of November and beginning of December, 2016. It is located on Gang Puri Kubu No 21, off Jl. Drupardi 1 which runs off Jl. Seminyak (look for Queen’s Tandoor - Indian restaurant on the corner of Jl. Seminyak and Jl. Drupardi 1). Given its proximity to the main street, it’s surprisingly quiet.
Villa Cahaya is nearby to shops, restaurants, bars and cafes - one of my favourite restaurants in the area is Bo & Bun - beautiful food and friendly staff. Only a short (5min) walk away is Bintang Supermarket which stocks much more than the 7-elevens and mini marts that you see ‘scattered’ every 20m-or-so. It is worthwhile going there if you need more than just snacks. If good coffee is your thing, this area has two of the best places for it (in my opinion, being a coffee drinker myself) – ‘Grain’ and ‘Café Moka’. Both of these are on Jl. Seminyak - Grain is a narrow café in a short and narrow laneway with an Australian chef (they also have food) and Café Moka has the kind of ‘look’ that reminds me of a ‘Deli’ and also has beautiful food. If the beach is your thing, it’s approx. a 15min walk away (depends on how fast you walk). Double Six Beach is approx. another 5mins-or-so South. However, I personally think there are much better beaches elsewhere in Bali.
The villa is very charming and reminiscent of a typical Spanish villa with arch doors and windows. As you walk through the key-lockable front gate and turn left you will face the double glass front door to the villa. It is a frameless, glass arched door that simply swings open and shut. Step inside and facing left is a small kitchen (decent size for a 1BR villa) with plenty of cupboards, a bar fridge, microwave and plenty of kitchen necessities. Further in is a plank of natural timber “bench” held upright by a floor to ceiling post with two stools. The entire villa is floor tiled which leaves a cool feeling underfoot and the ceilings in each of the rooms are high pitched timber ceilings. The living area has air-con as well as a ceiling fan.
Face right at the front door and you will be greeted by a couch against the front wall, a large coffee table in front of it and 2 chairs on the opposite side. On the furthest end of the coffee table is a double wooden-framed glass arched door leading to the pool.
Looking straight in from the front door is a tall timber entertainment cabinet against the end wall with a TV, VCR, etc. To the left of this tall cabinet is a door leading to the bathroom and to the right is an alcove with a 1m-or-so high wooden cabinet, sitting near a door that leads to the bedroom.
On entering the bedroom there is a sofa straight ahead against the wall facing you. To the left of that is a chest of drawers. Against the wall to the left as you enter you are met with a queen(?) size bed with a mosquito net surrounding it. To the right is another larger, double wooden-framed glass arched door which also leads to the pool. The bedroom also has its own air-con. If you do a ‘u-turn’ as you walk into the room there is a tall timber shelving unit to your left just before you enter the bathroom.
The bathroom is a good size – nothing too fancy but decent. The wardrobe is the first thing you see to the right with plenty of drawers and hanging space avail. This is separated by a half wall from the vanity unit which has bench space and wall lighting above it. On the opposite wall (which backs onto the living area) there are some shelves with one of them having a safety deposit box on it (secured, of course). Next to this is a towel rail which doubles as a bamboo ladder. Further in and separated from the vanity unit by a tall wall is the shower with decent water pressure. At the end of the bathroom is a doorway (no door) to the toilet. The toilet itself is on the right hand side with the left side having a door that leads back into the living area (next to the tall entertainment unit). The bathroom itself is a little dark due to it being right at the back of the villa. The wall that separates the bathroom from the living area has a glass ‘window’ at the very top to let some light in but not nearly enough.
The pool isn’t huge (approx 5m x 3m?) and the seating area around it is a bit narrow but it’s a one bedroom villa so the size is relative, I guess. Either way, the pool is definitely a welcome relief from the Bali heat. The garden itself is minimal (against the walls on two sides of the pool) with a few bushes in a small grassy area inside the front gate.
The staff at Villa Cahaya are friendly, welcoming and very helpful. They are happy to go out of their way to make you feel comfortable and are able to arrange tours for you, as well as organize airport transfers if needed. In particular, the two managers (sisters) were absolutely lovely – I am annoyed at myself for forgetting their names! ‘Adi’, one of the guys who looked after the place during the day was also very attentive.
During my stay, the only (minor) issues were: the front gate catches at the bottom / the gap between the front glass doors are prone to mosquitos getting in (easily solved by lighting some coils in front of it) / the Wifi was weak at times / the villa could do with a bit of a refreshing update.
Overall, Villa Cahaya is definitely great value for the price, the staff and the location. I would definitely recommend this to others.
Stayed 8 nights and it was ok.Nice and quite.Cleaning staff were good.
Front gate needs fixing.
Pool is small but ok.
No instructions for the combined microwave/griller.
Overall, good value for money as owner gave a discount.
