“"Wonderful holiday"”

Just wanted to say thank you to the manager and staff of Villa Iris for out wonderful stay.
My husband and I spent a relaxing 5 days in serene quiet and couldn't have asked for more.
The staff was wonderful and really took care to make sure we were happy.
The general manager greeted us on arrival to explain how everything worked and suggested restaurants for us.
The driver Buddy was such a joy to use and the cleaning staff made sure to ask us when we would prefer to have the villa cleaned.
Mega, the manager was always available to answer questions, take out laundry to be cleaned and also to call taxis for us when we were too lazy to walk the 50 or so  meters to the main road.
The villa itself was a nice surprise as the green space is quite expansive as opposed to many other villas we've stayed in that felt cramped. Super private too which was perfect as we spent all day by the pool. The villa was well maintained  and even better than the photos.
Location was great; off the Main Street but facing beautiful fields and very quiet which was a nice change-our own little Oasis in seminyak.
Can't wait to return and will definitely recommend.

“5 * Ambience…however... Also, Bali Tips and Recommendations”
Reviewed 7 August 2015 for a stay in July 2015

Having read all the 5* reviews I was expecting to do likewise. Unfortunately this villa only rates 2* because:
Pre administration & arrival: 5*. All emails were answered quickly and accurately. Payment via bank transfer (only in US$) went smoothly. Buddi the driver had a clear name card on arrival and got us to the villa in excellent time.
The Villa 2*. On the initial view it appears great however if you look a tiny bit closer you see all the things which are not up to standard.
Lovely Large Living Area 4* with two separated bedrooms & bathrooms. 2* Bed was fiercely firm 2*. Main bedroom door was so warped it was almost impossible to close.
Bathroom need a really good deep steam clean. 1* We never got used to having to place ALL used toilet paper into an unlined, uncovered wooden basket…urgh. We had hoped for more than one bar of Citra soap in the bathroom!
The sofa in Villa 3 was supper comfy 5* however the one in Villa 2 was terribly uncomfortable and needs replacing. 2* Unlike nearly all the competition, no breakfast or laundry is included. It is however available…at a price, AUD $20+ PER day, laundry – no idea of the cost.
Kitchen 1-2*. All the utensils need replacing and the cupboards next to the cooker smelt like a mouldy crypt (which we mentioned to the management). We also mentioned about the cutting board being a WH&S nightmare and all that happened was the poor cleaner was tasked to scrub it to death, still unhygienic and never used. Big usable fridge freezer 4*
Bespoke Plunge Pool 3-4*. Only 2 ½ m x 4m but extremely clean throughout our two weeks. No good if you actually want to swim in it though – only managed 1 stroke per length!
Location mmm…1-5*. Villa Iris is NOT in Seminyak! Go north through Petitenget and the villa is actually in a suburb called Kerabaka Kelod. 30+ minutes walk to beach and Seminyak centre. This was NOT an issue as all taxi cost less than $5AUD. Actually off a typically crazy busy Bali street, down a dirty alley. The alley and villas are very safe (lights and security all night). Villas are down a pretty flower lined side lane with a banana plantation opposite. Very peaceful.
‘Company’ Fatastic wildlife 5*. A squadron a bats at dusk with a couple of additional larger ones swooping low provided great aperitif entertainment. A pair of great ‘tweet, tweet’ sonar activated birds which sounded and looked amazing. Many cute frogs, lizards and a couple of snakes (well… compared to a big Brown they were tiny and far more scared of us). You could NOT hear the adjacent villas.
Cleaning. Our cleaner in the 2nd week, Jenti 5+*, worked flat out trying to keep the place up to standard. The cleaner in the 1st week however…smiled a lot…! Basically all the bathrooms, kitchen and living area need a professional deep steam clean (all curtains were torn). The BBQ was an unusable artefact - 0*. The washing machine 2*for entertainment (was there so we used it) sounded like an extra from the Exorcist film. Its demonic screeching, moaning, grinding only lacked talking in tongues!
Free wifi, mozzie stuff and loads of DVDs in the villa. 4*. Sadly no welcome pack/book (we did ask for one at least 3 times).
Issues. 1* Arrived and wife immediately noticed the fridge and bins were really dirty. Owner Marc visited late that afternoon. He asked if everything was OK? I said no! He then advised that we were not in the correct villa and we could move the next morning. We repacked and moved from villa 3 to 2. 1st night the bed was terrible uncomfortable. Next morning on inspection, realised it was upside down? In the event no matter as that night aircon broke and we had our own sauna, quietly melting. Informed the very helpful manager, Mega, who said it would be sorted. Two days later 4 men came and replaced it with a different reconditioned system. Sorted?…NO. That night at about 2AM we awoke to a waterfall pouring out if it. Water and electricity…mmm ..so we gingerly moved out to the guest room, again. Although we mentioned this many times it was never fixed (something about getting parts?). So, 10 of our 14 nights were not spent in the master bedroom we had booked. I did feel sorry for Mega as she clearly had her purse and management strings tied, preventing her from effectively ‘managing’.
Transport. Buddi 4+* the villa driver was brilliant in the chaotic traffic and also very cheap eg: 8hrs for AUD$60 wow! We did also use Mr JAYA 5++* (081 8055 11651) who was always on time, very cheap, had a spotless well air-conditioned car, spoke excellent English and would have been a superb guide if you needed one.
Want a Massage? For afantastic deep massage - ask specifically for Eka - $16 for 1hr - 5*

Conclusion: What a shame. This villa needs a complete overhaul. Once complete this will be a fantastic 5* place to stay. Villa staff were first rate and Lola the dog was cheeky but fun.

Trip Advisor Afternote: Having surfed, swam, slept, scoffed, read loads of books I thought to use the free wifi in order to do a little investigation into previous Tripadvisor reviews with very interesting results.
Immediately after Yvetterob’s 1* review appeared, a glowing 5* review by SAMSKY180 (who, having ‘liked’ 45 locations around the globe) decided now was the time for their 1st review – a glowing 5* review. Now if you cross reference their location (Amsterdam) with comments made by Roguish 1*….mmm. Also, over 90% of the 5* reviews were from 1st time reviewers – very unusable.

RESTAURANTS RECOMMENDATIONS:
BAMBU, Joint Top. Get a badysitter (not baby friendly) and GO 5++* Sadly it is not disabled friendly though. Only non smoking restaurant we went to – refreshing ! Must book
PETITINGET, Joint Top. 5++* (table 20 outside very romantic)..so much so, we noticed an elderly couple pre booked it 14 days solid! Drinks not too expensive as well. All food first rate.
Warung Cantina (beachclub/restaurant), 5* Quite fantastic. Best beach: Safe (life guards), gay friendly, good for children, only swim when the tide is coming in! 2 beds and umbrella all day $5. Really yummy fresh main meals $4-8, 081 237 452 606.
Sardine 5* A tad pricey but lovely setting and fantastic food – great for a lazy lunch.
Café Moonlight Bali 4*. Cosy and very good food and extremely well priced. Family run with good balcony to watch the sun go down.
Livinstone Café 3+* Good for a coffee and cake
Kendi Kunging (spelling?) 3+*. good out the back in the garden. Very smokey flavoured food but i liked it - very cheap drinks.
Angelita Tea Room (round the corner. Odd but fun 3* . Great cakes. Spoilt on one of our visits by a group of chinese youths using it for their unoffical selfi palour. grrrr
Bali Bali.3* OK but not that good an atmosphere. A pregnant women on the next table smoked throughout her meal…yuk/scary...I mean honestly...!
Bali Café 2* Wife's food was cold (sent back twice). Shame as it is a lovely setting.

Top Bali Attraction – Elephant Safari – expensive ($180 for 2) and 2hr taxi away but the ½ ride was such great fun. Stop at the Elephant Shrine on the way back (only $1 to get in) – watch out for the crazy dude bye the waterfall…you have been warned.
Taksi – All the taxi were cheap, clean and safe. Always haggle down to $4-5 for upto a ½ hour ride.
We heard good things about the water park - Ask Buddi where it is.
1st supermarket (5 mins away on the other side of the main road) is much cheaper than the one next door.
Number 1 TIP. Only if you are a base jumper / cave diver with the cranial scar to prove it should you hire a scooter.
No 2 TIP. Bring some duty free wine. Even the local plonk is $20-25/bottle. A very average bottle of NZ white ($15 in an Oz bottleO) in a restaurant there was $50-60 !!!

“Beautiful and amazing!”
Reviewed 30 July 2015 for a stay in March 2015

Our stay in this villa was just wonderful! From the moment of booking till the end of our stay all was on a great level. Location is great, in the center and close to everything(shops/restaurants/beach/clubs) but at the same time very peaceful and quite, what is a great combination when you choosing a place to stay. Staff was very helpful and friendly! The villa itself is beautiful and very clean and well maintained. We had an amazing experience and definitely will be coming back to stay here again.

“So lucky to choose this villa!”
Reviewed 22 July 2015 for a stay in June 2015

We stayed at the villa with my 8 years old son. Had a great time! This place is so nice for many reasons: cozy and spacious at the same time, high quality in details, convenient location - close to everything and so easy to find, friendly stuff - all together made our holidays a wonderful time!

“Truly Luxurious, Comforting & Welcoming experience”
Reviewed 14 July 2015 for a stay in July 2015

I can only describe our stay as 'blissfully wonderful !! ... Everything from booking correspondence to arrival at the airport to our days at the villa all the way until departure, was meticulously arranged and wonderfully done. The villa itself is truly an oasis !!! While we love Bali itself, it was a wonderful feeling to return everyday to this piece of land we called home for 10days.
The management personnel were always and almost immediate on call and somehow anticipated our needs even before asking from the moment we got back from our tourist activities to the next morning before leaving again. Marc the villa owner also provided us with the services of his driver, which I would recommend to every one to avail of as its safer and more reliable than any random tour operator. Balinese culture is known to be very polite and humble and serving, and this was demonstrated in full by each and every staff member at the villa.
The villa itself was blissful. The bed is heavenly and I slept like a baby which is great as I am very fussy about beds and have difficulties in most hotels. The villa has been very well maintained and super clean with daily cleaning services etc. I have stayed in many many many villa rentals around the world and I understand that frequent renting and temporary guests can takes a toll on the property but this villa has either had caring guests or has been extremely well maintained or a combination. Either ways it was beautifully perfect in every way. Also the location is just amazing !!!!! Bang in the middle of the city but you can easily think you are on a remote island due to its tranquility and peace. The tranquility of the villa did NOT come at the price of feeling safe. We felt totally secure and Buddi the driver also doubles as the security was always reassuringly present which is very important for my girlfriend after a bad experience we had in Jamaica.
In short, like my review title states, our holiday and was almost honeymoon perfect and in no small part because of our stay at Villa Iris and everyone involved. A heartfelt thank you to Marc, Megan, Buddi and the staff and gardner. And not to forget the villa Mascot Lola. (Marc, please give her another bone from us and tell her we miss her)
