I've stayed in one of the timber huts and also camped there. I must be getting old or something, but wow, have expectations changed for so called backpackers these days!
Some of these reviews are just astounding! If you are a true traveller who appreciates basic accommodation, at a fair price, likes to be in surrounded by a lovely setting and, like a true backpacker, makes the effort to make fire and chat, then this is a great place!.
Trouble with the so called ' modern' backpacker' is, they EXPECT 5 star accommodation at a backpacker price. Please, for you people, go and find a B& B for a lot more money!.
Backpackers are what YOU make them. This is a great place!. Swellendam has many lovely walks.........on the doorstep!. Just make the effort, that's all!. Enjoy.

The hostel is a good stay if you want a cheap accomadation in a expensive town. For me a Backpackers should have doorms. So i think you should change your name...
The walls in this hostel were like paper and you heared every word of people who are staying in the bordering rooms.

The garden and veranda are very nice and the atmosphere is very nice with chicken and dogs walking around. My bed was very comfortable and the room was clean. The owners are very friendly and will help you if you have questions. Last but not least i think nowadays any hostel should have free wifi....

We booked an ensuite on a weekend. Lots to see in this lovely town. Quiet location of main road. Friendly hosts make you feel welcome. Cosy fire in lounge area. Bedroom was nice with good shower. Tip: avoid being next to the lovely veranda because it is where the smokers gather.
