Set in the Hout Bay yacht basin, The Lookout Deck is the place to be on Sunday afternoon/evening for good food and awesome 60’s & 70’s music provided by the 5-piece band, Tanglewood. Front of house reception was pleasant and the waitrons were efficient and full of fun. The menu was fairly extensive and we settled on fish & chips and deep fried calamari, both of which were great. Food prices are on the upper side, but the view and 3 hours of live entertainment were free, so good Sunday value for money. Highly recommended.

Food was cold, but this seemed to be a general complaint from everyone sitting near us. If you are going to charge the prices you do, I feel like the food should match.
Floury prawns and stale cold chips.

While the location is magical, the deck area was tacky with cigarette butts and dirt under the table.

Management and staff are super friendly and on the ball.

Lookout Deck has everything going for it. There were over ten pleasant waiters on duty when we went for lunch today. We chose expensive mains. They arrived pretty quickly and I was impressed. But the food was cold!! Cold tuna, cold chips - how is that possible? So we sent one plate back. We waiting and waited. We asked twice about the meal. Eventually it arrived - cold again. Well, it takes a special skill to produce cold food, I must say. During a break, I went to find the manager. There was none. I asked those hanging around the till "Could they produce a hot meal?" They seemed dubious, did not treak me seriously, and one youngster even made jokes about it. Hot food was not on their minds. I persisted. If I ordered a hot meal, could they do it? Well, maybe. So I ordered fish and chips for dessert. It arrived in reasonable time, piping hot on a plate you could not touch. Now why could they not be doing that all day? Because people accept anything and don't complain. So, my suggestion when going here (and it is a nice place) is to say in advance most explicitly that you want your food HOT.

Lovely setting on the outside deck watching the marina, fishing boats and the seals but a very lethargic and uninterested level of service for a weekday lunch! Opted for a bowl of mussels in white wine sauce and got a thick gluggy white sauce (which very quickly got colder and thicker) and needed to scraped of the mussels to actually taste anything fishy! Not again!
