We were with two. I ordered the fisherman’s basket with lobster, for one.
The best thing I can say is: it had enough calories for two. There was a big plate. The whole selection was covered under a thick layer of sauce Holandaise with a garlic taste, which had obviously been put in the oven. Underneath everything-including the lobster - was deep fried and kind of rubbery with no taste at all. The mussels looked uncooked when they cover was removed. So I put them aside. The same I did with the king prawns after tasting a bite.
The fish was alright had it been for fish and chips.
So I decided to eat my neighbor’s vegetables. The tasted fresh and crisp, no fat added fortunately.
I left the rest soaked in butter together with the rice on the plate.

Dear Handikap

Sorry the meal was not to your liking. The fisherman's basket is done in a garlic or lemon butter sauce that is put under the salamander to melt over the food. It is a rich sauce but most people ask for it this way. It would seem that you are health conscious and you would have been welcome to ask for the sauce on the side. You would have been welcome to have contacted the manager on the day and asked him to redo it to your satisfaction.

Assuring you of our best intentions.

Regards

Shaun Bloch

Good day

My husband and I came to visit my brother in-law and his wife who live in Cape Town and on our first night they wanted to take us to their favourite place to get Lobster which is your restaurant, which they have been to multiple times.

They then made a booking for table number 13 as it's their favourite table, with no issues at all from the reservation lady table number 13 was booked for us.

Apon arrival we were told the table was booked out by other guests.
We then told the waitress that we had also booked table 13 so she then told us to sit there.
As we were all getting settled in we got approached by possibly the rudest manager we have ever come in to contact with.
He didn't even come with a kind approach to explain and apologise for the mistake, but abruptly told us to move as the table is for someone else (on that note the restaurant was very empty so he couldhv easily moved those guests to another table as we had already settled in). He carried on for a while arguing with us to move, we had driven an hour with their 7 month baby to have a nice dinner and it was made very short there after.

We felt so uncomfortable and unwelcome that we just decided to rather leave.

We were all highly disappointed especially especially my brother in-law and his wife and they told us that they are regularly at your establishment for lobster.

I am sorry to hear about this and this sounds like a table booking mix-up which could have been handled far more professionally. I would like to investigate this further and would also be interested which manager dealt with you (please email me on shaunb@marinerswharf.co.za)

the wharfside grill is located upstairs and dont need a reservation during the december holidays as we just met family for lunch at hout bay and it was a table for 3 guess with more guests you would need to reserve. We were greeted by a wonderful hostess at the entrace who directed us the the

we were situated in the Long room and the inside is like a ship so you have different areas to be seated and different rooms. The attire of the waiters and waitress is that of a sailor and you could easily think you on board a ship sailing the coast.

We had the wharfside salad + mariners curry asked for spicy and the sole.
All of our meals were delicious and service was good, The ambience of the restaurant is good as you have a great view of the bay and the sea. You can enjoy a good meal and view from the inside.

This would definitely be on our list again when visiting Hout Bay.

Conveniently located, cool decor, outstanding service and all around friendly place. We only had drinks so I can't comment on the food but everything that passed our table looked amazing and the diners all seemed happy.

We expected more of a fish & chip vibe and think that we went to the wrong place as it’s a bit confusing with the up and downstairs restaurant. The waiters seemed a bit arrogant and food was average.
