Description: Between 1835 and 1849 the Kronendal Farm was owned by Sir William Josias Cloete. Legend has it that the homestead is haunted by his daughter Elsa Cloete who died of a broken heart after being forbidden to marry her soldier lover. Kitima still sets and serves a table for Elsa with samples from the menu to appease Elsa's spirit. Welcome to Kitima restaurant where oriental elegance and hospitality meet the unpretentious grace and charm of Africa. Our authentic Thai and Asian Fusion cuisine, prepared by our Thai chefs will carry you to a world of exotic spices, perfumes and all that’s precious and exotic. Various dining option are available from our private lover’s room seating 2-6 persons, our VIP room seating up to 12 persons, our Temple and Bangkok rooms as well as the Raya lounge for cocktails, drinks, snacks or even dinner to share. Kitima exudes all the splendour of a traditional Cape Dutch homestead with yellowwood ceilings, wooden floors combined with modern Asian artefacts and cuisine. Our cocktail list is extensive and features a number of award winners that are both stunning in taste and appeal. The restaurant has the addition of the garden and the Raya Terrace which are unique covered areas that are available, however these are weather permitting. We invite you to have a taste of true Thai cuisine in a traditional and modernised South African homestead.

Kitima is one of those rare restaurants that earns 5 stars on every aspect. The atmosphere is perfect: rich, roomy, dim, fashionable, with a variety of rooms/areas in which to eat. There is a smoking area in the second bar.

The food is amazing. You'll love every single thing you order. The dim sum are all excellent, the prawn basket, the daily special, the desserts, the drinks/cocktails, the pad thai, the soups, the prawn balls, the sushi, every single thing is delicious. If you need someplace for a special occasion or even just a relaxing weekend date night, it's the place.

It's not super great for toddlers. You can take them there absolutely, but it's an occasion place, not a family-friendly free for all. Bookings essential, though if you show up early you might be able to snatch a table in the bar area if you promise to get out of there quickly.

We went there last night because it was strongly advised to us by some local ladies we met in the afternoon. Food, service, atmosphere, wine and decor was faultless. Great Thai food with a nice kick. It's a must if you are in Hout Bay !

Dinner was arranged by a colleague and was driven to this very dark parking lot with hardly any cars! Entered a really old building that just beamed with warmth and beauty. Building was beautifully decorated and just seemed to have a relaxing ambiance around! at the entrance is this exquisitely laid table with with wine and food but no one sitting there! I was told later that this was the table for the resident spirit/ghost ... interesting story! Getting back to the food, it was excellent and really a good dinner with great service. Will definitely return.

Cape Town in darkness (loadshedding!), cold winter night and we stroll up to the door to be greeted by a statuesque young woman in (almost) a ball gown. Odd. Walk through the beautifully restored wooden doors, past the three-people deep bar, to a tiny room at the back near a fireplace. The hum of bar laughter filtered through to our dining space but did not interfere with conversation. (Actually much better than 'orrible elevator music.) Menu was extensive but we opted for a set menu and were rewarded with a perfectly balance meal at a great price. I will go back in the summer to sample their famous cocktails.

Set in a monument that has been restored and decorated tastefully, this venue is large but pulls off intimate and cozy. Our waiter, Junior, was outstanding and managed to balance efficient and attentive but not invasive. The wine menu is extensive in choice and there are prices for all budgets. Our food was extremely tasty, well presented and more than enough as far as portion sizes. My only criticism would be the starters. I felt they were quite small portions for the price (2 pieces Bacon Sui Mai R 63.00 and Chicken Satay, 3 small portions, R50.00). I had the Thai chicken green curry which was really full of flavour - delicious. My friend had the crispy duck which was really good. Rice is extra on the menu (R20). They also have a winter set menu which works out really well price wise. For the three of us the food bill came to R577.00 and we each had a starter and main. Total bill R909.00 for the three of us (includes food, two bottles of wine and a large still water). Service was really very good. I have had equal quality food in other eateries of the same ilk and this one is slightly higher priced. It is however, set in a lovely building and has a special ambiance and of course, the good service. There are also a few choices of private rooms for special occasions. The bar area is also cozy and comfortable. A great experience.
