Stunning Service Standards

Review of Leeu House
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 08 Aug 2024
Two nights in Franschhoek at this lovely boutique hotel.Greeted by Roger and well served by Honest.
Lovely room 9 and as out of season we were transported to Leeu Estates for dinner which was excellent.
Breakfast at Leeu House was tip top and staff service standards were beyond reproach. To have staff stand up from their desk and remain standing when you approach with a question is from a bygone age but it certainly makes the guest feel special.
Would revisit in a heartbeat.

As one who comes every 2 years to the Cape Town area, and currently staying at Delaire Graff in Stellenbosch, we came to Frranschoek to walk around. As we were walking, we saw the bronzes of Ghandi and Mandela in front of the hotel. We opened the gate to get a picture, but to also inquire about seeing the hotel as a possibility for a future stay. We were rudely approached and told it was for residents only, and we couldn’t come in.
While Mr Singh doesn’t need my money, there is no way he will ever have a chance to get any of it in the future.
When I was in business before retirement, we thought our sales people to treat any potential customer, no matter how they looked or dressed, as if they had a million dollars of cash in their pockets. Many unsuspected sales were made because the potential customer was treated like we were when we walked thru the gate by others.

Leeu house ticks all the boxes.
You can see the owner/managers obsession with form and cleanliness.
The gardens are pristine, the facilities well maintained and the rooms are spotless.
I love attention to detail and this place is a perfect example of how a boutique hotel should be run.
The staff are friendly and welcoming and the breakfast is simple but tasty and sufficient.

The bigger Leeu Estate up the road is bigger because it’s on a wine estate but Leeu House is perfect if you are staying in Franschoek for two days and want to be close to the town. Walking distance to everything.
Highly recommended.

Second time in Franschhoek and wanted to try something in town close to the action.

Location is really good if you want to walk around and not have to drive or take shuttles.

Service was very friendly and good if a bit unpolished. Food for breakfast and dinner were great.

Rooms are all nice and vary depending on category. The suite by the pool is very nice and gets lots of light. Smaller rooms don't have views but still get plenty of light.

Overall we thought it was good value and definitely recommend.

Room tip: Choose room type or view accordingly. You get what you pay for.

Traveling with my mother, stayed in room number 5 for three nights.

The Pros:
The room made a good first impression, although there was a very strong smell of air freshener. Beds were comfy, room was clean, housecoat & slippers available, and it had a solid tea and coffee station. Reliable housekeeping and turndown service. Breakfast was consistently good.
The courtyard off the back of the room was like a private oasis - a great place to read or pass the time if you need a break from it all. A comfier chair or chaise would have been nice, but not necessary by any stretch.
Location in Franschhoek is fantastic - easy walking to shops, cafés, and necessities (grocery store, pharmacy, and post office within a couple of blocks).
The service was excellent - staff were attentive and kind.

The Cons:
The air freshening spray was extremely strong, and it aggravated my allergies. I asked staff to stop using it, and I had to leave a window and the doors to the courtyard open for several hours for the scent to settle. Unfortunately, it became clear the freshener is used to mask a foul odor - I couldn’t place the smell, but it was strong. Again had to leave a window and doors open for several hours a day to make it tolerable - there are no screens, so you do this recognizing it’s a risk with flies and wildlife.
The television only had Netflix. Normally, this would be a nice bonus, but we found it inconvenient that we were unable to watch local evening news, etc. since there was no cable.

I really enjoyed this hotel, the staff is perfectly well trained, they call you by the last name, very cosy hotel with very few rooms. Worth every cent. The breakfast menu is perfect , but the buffet could use some more options. Beside that it is a 10 out of 10!

Room tip: I always parks the car in front of the hotel, but they a parking place on the back and always staff for picking it up really fast!
