Akademie is an absolute hidden gem. From the moment we arrived and were greeted by name by Declan, we felt absolutely welcome and were so thrilled to have picked this guest house. The owners of Akademie have furnished the hotel to absolute perfection. Many of the furnishings are sourced from overseas and give the place its feel of total elegance. There are enough different areas in the hotel to keep guests occupied throughout their stay and Declan and his team could not have done more to enhance our enjoyment of our stay. Breakfast had a legendary reputation and did not disappoint - it is one of the best I have had in any hotel. Evening drinks were a delight as was the pino and pianist, as well as the after dinner nightcaps offered to guests. We were so sad not to have stayed for longer than our two nights but we have already booked our return. Thank you to Declan, Chris, Meena, Stacey and all of the team for everything - we loved staying with you and cannot speak highly enough of Akademie.

Room Tip: All rooms are furnished differently but have the same level of comfort.

My only regret was not staying for thee nights! My husband and I traveled with another couple and our two bedroom/two bath suite was PERFECT. Each couple had a luxurious room with private bath ( with heated floors) Unfortunately due to the extreme drought you could not use the free standing tub.(next time!). The furnishing of this property is extraordinary with more attention to detail than I have every experienced! The bed was comfy and a good night's sleep was had. We had to leave very early in the morning to catch a plane to Victoria Falls -- a light breakfast was prepared as well as a bag to take with, along with a personal wake up knock at 4 am! As many have mentioned the staff is wonderful - Declan and his team go out of their way to accommodate your every need. Breakfast is special - we are still talking about the fresh fruit platter and smoothies. There are cocktails in the late afternoon when guests gather and chat. I hope to return!

What a wonderful boutique hotel this is, a very unique experience if you stay here. Every detail has been well thought out from the unique and luxury furnishings in every room to the produce in the mini bar, cocktail hour, after dinner drinks, cosy outdoor fireplace, amazing breakfast to the interesting conversations with fellow guests and host/owner, Declan. A wonderful place has been created in Franschoek and Declan and his team should be very proud.

My wife and I stayed here for two nights. There is simply nothing to fault about it.

Our suite was large and had EVERYTHING that you could need for an enjoyable stay. We loved the toiletries and the wood fired hot tub which was a great way to finish the day.

I don’t think you could have a more perfect breakfast and the fruit platter and homemade muesli were simply delightful. Even a Bloody Mary too :)

All of the staff were friendly which added to what was an amazing stay.

No attention to detail is overlooked here. It is and will by far take some beating “the best hotel I have ever stayed”.

Thank you Declan and Meena for looking after us. We shall return.

This is a wonderful place to stay and you can see why it has won so many awards. Declan and his team are very friendly, helpful and nothing is too much bother. We stayed in the Uitsig room which is upstairs with a terrace which looks over to the mountains. It is beautifully decorated with a rise/lower TV, complementary tea/coffee, snacks and mini bar. The ensuite is luxurious with separate toilet, shower, twin sinks and bath. The breakfast, which is gorgeous, is served either on the terrace weather permitting or in the arboretum. There is a communal pool with beds and seating areas. Some of the guest cottages have their own pools. The attention to detail is second to none. I would definitely recommend this guesthouse.
