We stayed 3 nights in one of the upstairs en-suite rooms (Sensational). The bedroom was a reasonable size and the bathroom was very spacious with a bath and separate shower. When we stayed the weather was cool but I think this room may get quite warm during the summer. Breakfast was served in the garden the first morning but inside the other 2 mornings due to the cooler weather. There was a nice choice of fresh fruit, yogurt, cereals etc to start and then made to order hot breakfast which was very nice. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Centre-Ville is in an ideal location only a few minutes walk to lots of excellent restaurants and also the wine tram.
I would be more than happy to stay here again next time we visit Franschhoek.

Centre-Ville Guest House is located right next to the main road in the corner of a quiet and cute street.
The staff (Brenda and Jaco) was very attentive from the moment we arrived until we left!
Breakfast was great.
I believe the swimming pool was fixing something and it did not seem clean or inviting.
The room and bathroom were very cute, fairytale like, but the way the furniture was set in the room was not ideal and made it very crowded, there were some shelves to place the luggage but they were small and bags could not be opened there. In front of the shelves there were chairs that had to be placed inside the bathroom for us to take our luggage off the shelf and put it on the floor to open it.
Other than that, everything was fine but I seriously think spave for luggage should be thought off better!

- It's only an advice: we had a room under the roof, taller people might have issues due to the low ceiling
- We were lucky it wasn't really hot, but I imagine it gets extremely hot during summer time in the upstairs rooms

Pro's:
- Lovely breakfast with great variety (warm and cold)
- Helpful and extremely kind hosts and staff
- Outside breakfast area
- Very comfortable bed/ mattrass
- AC available (we didn't use it though)
- old-fashioned, original cozy furnished rooms
- walking distance to the shopping street of Franschhoek (incl. wine tram)
- parking free of charge (around the corner at a public parking lot with reserved spots)
- very good water pressure in the shower

We stay at the Centre Ville Guesthouse in Franschhoek for 3-nights in mid Oct ($104). Just a block off Franschhoek's main street and its restaurants, bars and stores, the Centre Ville is a quaint 2-storey house with a broad covered verandah wrapping around two sides, located on a corner lot on a quiet back street. Entry was either through the main front door into a long hallway, decorated with antiques, with guestrooms off each side, or the side door off the driveway into a small parlour with the stairway to the upstairs rooms to the side. From the moment we entered the house, we were enveloped by the atmosphere of an opulent 19th century farmhouse with authentic design elements like 10' ceilings, wood plank flooring and antique furnishings throughout. The ground floor had a comfortable sitting area, with a fireplace, that served as the breakfast area on cold mornings; otherwise, breakfast was served around the pool at the side of the house. Now that I mentioned it, breakfast was superb – one of the best we experienced in 3 months of travel through Africa – in full English style, with a choice of eggs, mass of bacon, sausage, mushrooms, tomatoes with muffins, toast, choice of fruits, fresh juice, tea and coffee. But it was not just the food, it was the attention to detail in its presentation on ornate servers with silver cutlery and fork rests – something you rarely see.

Our double room was a ground floor corner at the front. It was very large and spacious, and made to seem more so by the 12' ceilings and 2 tall windows. It was immaculately furnished in mostly antiques – a make-up desk with 5 mirrors and an array of drawers, a small cabinet, large armoire, ornate love seat, and a very comfortable bed with a beautiful spread and side tables. On the more modern side, it had heated blankets, a wall-mounted TV, mini-fridge (appreciated by a beer drinker in a wine region), AC and ceiling fan, and the tiniest safe I have ever seen. Floors were wood plank, and the plank and beam ceiling enhanced the farmhouse atmosphere. And, as a nice touch, there was a small decanter of sherry in the room each day and a larger one in the sitting area.

The bathroom was also large, with a stand-alone tub, shower with a rainwater shower head (although a bit low for my liking) and a nice selection of toiletries.

There were several nice lounge areas in the guesthouse – the verandah, around the pool, in the parlour – but our favourite for sun-downers was a small deck on the upper floor reached by stairs from the pool area – a great view of the mountains, but only accessible when that room was vacant. Internet did not reach the room, but was available in the parlour, pool area and upper deck. There was parking for 4 cars in the driveway, with additional spots reserved in the lot across the street – not secure, but security was not an issue in Franschhoek. And finally, our hosts were super – always solicitous and very helpful with suggestions for activities and reservations for dinner. Highly recommended.
