Kgalagadi Park on your doorstep

Review of Kgalagadi Lodge
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 22 Jun 2023via mobile
We stayed here for 5 nights as we visited the Park each day, literally 5mins away from the Twee Rivieren gate

Our room, a family room no 13 , was on the slope overlooking a farm and we had wonderful sunrises every morning while having breakfast before heading to the park. There were 2 bedrooms, bathroom with shower and open plan kitchen and lounge area with a TV as well as a closed patio with a braai that we used often enjoying some local wildlife meat. The kitchen had everything we needed. The only downside is the water which you can't drink and not great for showering as it's quite salty. It's a challenge in the whole area not just here

There is a shop and restaurant on site to buy water or and basic groceries you may need. We ate at the restaurant 1 evening and it was great. There is a pool and deck, outside seating and a lovely fireplace which was going as the evenings were rather chilly. For those who need excercise there are a few trails on the property and some wildlife, nothing dangerous. We had a visit from an African wild cat a few nights and some Eland were grazing close by. There is also a resident bird that looks similar to an emu/alpaca but not sure that was very friendly and visited us on the patio a few times. This is a great base should you not be able to get place in Kgalagadi Park

What a lovely lodge. Staff made us feel right at home with their friendliness. Our room was beautifully decorated and clean. The restaurants food was very very good loved the "boontjies" and Best potato salad. Can't wait for our next visit.

The accommodation was spacious and spotless. The decor imaginative and enduring. We were not very hungry and the restaurant allowed us to share an excellent game pie . The wine selection also good and the white wine was well chilled. The staff efficient, accommodating and friendly. We'll be back.

Only a few kilometres from Kgalagadi Park gate at Twee Ririvieren . This will ensure a early morning entry into the park so that you dont lose a day in the park while still on the road to the park . Clean well kept and on top of a high dune .Good restaurant.

The facility is modern and well equipped and the food was tasty and well prepared - the real problem here is the restaurant service. There was no warm greeting explanation of food or drinks and no please or thank you. We were a party of 8 international travels and everyone was of the same opinion - poor service. Orders were late or incorrect. Plenty of staff serving but seemed focused on talking rather than serving customer. Such a shame considering all the excellent service provided by other establishments in SA

Room tip: Patience needed when ordering food.

We slept over at the lodge on the way to Walvisbay. The little chalets were perfect, from hot water showers to cold fridges, stunning sunsets and sunrises, not to mention the lamb shank on the first night and the lamb's neck on the second, with Nickolaas' bespoke spotify list in the background. We even fitted in a 7km walk in the kalahari veld to work off that shank. We will be back!
