Its a trek to get there via 91 sand dunes, however once there it was lovely. The view from the lodge is beautiful. Our guide was accommodating changing a morning walk into a drive so that the kids could join us. The chefs were also great in ensuring my husband was look after with his gluten free meals. Amazing having a male lion walk right past our lodge one evening.

We stayed at !Xaus Lodge for 2Ns. Loved the rustic luxury look & feel of the property. Each cottages is like traditional South African hut and has all regular amenities. The private wooden deck to each cottage overlooks massive salt-pan. Feel the heat of pure desert, but you can spend hours on this deck. Pack binoculars to spot various birds and stray wildlife that walks upto the salt-pan in search of salt and in hope of some water.

The desert experience was very unique. Such contrast from an "entitled" city life that we are so used to. All taps have salt water (fresh water is available for drinking), electricity is only for a couple of hours every morning and evening, no connectivity whatsoever - no internet, no WiFi. Takes a few hours to get used to but feels different & nice. Makes you appreciate the tough life in a desert.

The staff (mostly all locals) is polite & efficient. Suzi & Anthony (the manager couple) is very friendly & fantastic. Food is tasty & had good variety even for pure vegetarians.

Morning walk in the orange desert sand amidst golden grass was a fantastic experience. Knowing that you are in absolute wild - truly a lion territory - was thrilling. The senior guide is enthusiastic & knowledgeable. We found the junior guides much less enthusiastic.

If you are focused on wildlife sighting, may be, this is not the place for you. For wildlife sighting, the location of the property seems to be a challenge - about 30 kms off the main Twee Rivieren driveway when you enter the Transfrontier National Park from this Twee Rivieren gate. Along the main driveway, we saw hoards of wildlife - Cheetah, Lions, Springboks, Blue wildebeest, Oryx, Brown hyenas, Ostriches, Jackals, Steenboks, Giraffes & more. But as we drove off this road towards the lodge through orange sand dunes, the density of wildlife dropped dramatically. We were lucky that at night one thirsty lioness gracefully walked upto the salt-pan waterhole in front of the lodge to gulp-up the water! In the vicinity of the lodge, we also saw a few ostriches, a couple of oryx, few red hartebeests, some birds and jackals.

We visited this place after Kruger, which had dizzying density of wildlife. This place, gave us a totally different desert experience of Kalahari. The drive on the Twee Rivieren made up for Kalahari wildlife too! Enjoyed our stay.

The lodge is perfectly situated overlooking a salt pan where animals meet day and night. We enjoyed two great bushwalks with Koos and John, a night drive and a sundowner drive. We even saw six mighty lions passing the lodge so close that you could touch them... Food was fantastic and comfort regarding the very remote area very good. We‘ll surely return!
