We were fortunate to win a 2 night stay at !Xaus Lodge. We were there for New Year’s Eve 2016.
We had to drive over 90 dunes to get there, which was an adventure in itself. !Xaus Lodge seemed like an oasis in the middle of a harsh landscape.
The welcome at !Xaus Lodge was friendly and informative. The lodge’s managing couple, Anthony and Suzi, were very hospitable.
The service at the bar and restaurant was good. Considering that !Xaus Lodge is in the middle of nowhere and special dietary requirements were met, the food was delicious. We had a Boma Braai on New Year’s Eve, and, the atmosphere was festive.
Although game is sparse, as you would expect in a waterless environment, we got to see many nocturnal animals on the game drive. We also got to see many interesting dune inhabitants. Our guides, John and Johan, were very knowledgeable and patient with the children.
We visited the makeshift Bushman’s Village which gave us great insight into their arts and crafts.
The family chalet was booked, so we had to split up in two chalets. The units were next to each other. The salty ablution water, desalinated drinking water, and, intermittent power, allowed us to appreciate !Xaus Lodge even more. The children enjoyed the small pool which provided relief in the midday sun. There was a great deal of free time and the children got to enjoy the board games that we had taken along.
!Xaus Lodge is a must for adventurous families. It’s a great place to enjoy open spaces, fantastic sunsets and the endless semi desert. The clear night skies provide for excellent star gazing. Because of the remote location and minimal carbon footprint policy, !Xaus Lodge is an ideal place to have a technology detox and enjoy the silence and sounds of nature.
Thank you Wildcard…we had an awesome time!
