Our stay at Kings Walden was one we shall always remember. Our total experience was memorable. The small hotel has a wonderful calm atmosphere crated by wonderful gardens and views. Steven and Sophie, as owners and hosts, and all their staff, made us feel extremely welcome but this review would not be complete without mentioning the food. Steven's knowledge, his palate and presentation of his food is outstanding. Each meal was an occasion not to be missed.

First stayed here some 15 years ago, when it was cosy and homely but pretty nondescript (apart from the fantastic mountainside location). But now, under new management, and with a complete makeover last year, Tzaneen finally has a hotel that's worth going out of the way for. Although it doesn't look particularly glam from the outside, inside Kings Walden is decidely chic, with huge airy bedrooms and giant bathrooms. There's lots of polished concrete and tile, softened with luxurious fabrics and the odd animal hide, but all without being over the top. Comfortable, relaxed and classy. Meals meanwhile, are as spectacular as the views. If host Stephen asks "May I play with your breakfast?", answer yes and await a real treat to start the day. Thoroughly recommended.

We could not believe our eyes when we entered Kings Walden Lodge on our first honeymoon day in South Africa. The lodge's location is just perfect with views over the gorgeous Drakensbergen mountains; the rooms extremely spacious and luxurious (complete with romantic fireplace and candles); the hosts most hospitable and caring; the food a culinary treat! On our 1 night at the lodge chef Steven spoiled us with a 4 course scrumptuous meal (we've never eaten better!!!) and an equally fabulous breakfast. We could not have imagined a better start for our fortnight in South Africa!
We do hope to go back one day and stay a bit longer! 1 night is not nearly enough!!!
Thank you Steven and Co.!

We have been here 2 nights in September and it was just GREAT! Once you go through the gate of the hotel, you enter a little paradise! Very modern, comfortable rooms with your own fireplace, a stunning view, beautiful gardens and then the food...Well, you just will have to taste for yourself...Too good!

If you pass near Tzaneen you should really try to pass via this gem!
