On our 3-weeks holiday in South Africa we saw many nice places. All of us agreed that Kings Walden was one of the best places to stay. The rooms were luxury and clean. The service was a mixture of profesionalism and empathy. The cuisine was excellent. The lounge / holding room was warm and comfortable. And all of this was completed by a beautiful garden and magnificant views. We certainly can recommend that, whenever you are in the neighbourhood of Tzaneen, you include a stay in Kings Walden in your trip.

We loved our stay at Kings Walden, most of all the food and the decoration! The rooms and bathrooms are huge and beautifully decorated with great views. There was a fire place in each of our rooms. Steven made us a fantastic breakfast: his healthy gardener's omelet was by far the best omelet I ever had and the cocquotte with truffle oil was delicious. The set dinner was also perfect and was kindly adjusted for the kids. The girls loved the large garden, the swimming pool and the nearby canopy tour which was kindly recommended and reserved by Sophie. We would definitely recommend this hotel and hope we can return one day.

Where to start I wonder. The first impression when walking through the entrance-door into the garden is one of disbelief. Such a well hidden gem giving away its secrets at a slow but unstoppable pace. The views from wherever you are in the garden are magnificent. Where-ever you walk you find more breathtaking vistas. These are of course not the making of the new hosts at Kings Walden. Steven and Sophie have made sure there is more to it than the beauty and tranquility of the large gardens. Soft music welcomes guests to relax in the comfortable sofa's next to the open fire-place in the lounge. If you would prefer more privacy there is always the fire-place in your own room to enjoy. That is if you are not enjoying a soak in your large bath-tub or a shower - either inside or al fresco. The food we enjoyed was just superb. Forget about the breakfast-buffet. Here is a cook ready to surprise you and treat you with freshly made dishes of the more exotic kind (or prepare you a classic fry-up for those less adventurous). We also enjoyed the diner-experience (twice even). Again Steven just told us what he had in his fridge and turned part of its content into a fine four-course dinner. My partner not eating any meat was no problem. A good cook knows how to treat a vegetarian with a descent meal. We enjoyed staying at Kings Walden from the moment we arrived until the moment we sadly had to leave. The setting is great, the newly decorated rooms (all of them - that is every room in the entire building) are classy and tasteful, the food is divine, the staff and the hosts are kind and most helpful. We hope to be back - if possible to chill-out for a week during the African summer. That would be just great. :-)
