We spent the night here en-route to Cape Town from Johannesburg. This is a good halfway stop when travelling by road.

The units are clean and comfortable. We stayed in a 2 bedroom unit which had 2 bedrooms and comfortably slept 3 people. Although the unit can sleep 5 people comfortably. We were spoilt with great views over the full Gariep Dam which is also one of the biggest dams in South Africa.

We ended up eating dinner and breakfast at the resort restaurant. The food was average, but the service was friendly.

We are more fond of hotels that are 4 star plus, so this was not the best option for us. Although you are not spoilt for choice in the area.

Room Tip: They are all mostly the same. Just size differs

Good Day Renier F,

Thank you for your review. Great to hear that you chose Forever Gariep for a peaceful stop-over on your journey. It is such a beautiful picture watching over the largest dam in S.A..
Please do again stop for another stay and see if you can book one of our newly refurbished luxury units (re-opened this past weekend), you will most definitely be surprised with the top quality.

Have a safe journey.

Stopped over here for a night in February 2017. Great place, clean ablution facilities. Sites are grassed with own braai facility. Electrical and water point. Would definitely spend a long weekend here.

Ideal for a stop over on your way to Cape Town. We are more hotel type people, so for us this was totally out of our comfort zone. We stayed in one of the self catering units, but had dinner in the resort restaurant. The food was a disappointment. Not recommended at all.

We booked this resort as a stopover on our trip from Johannesburg to Prince Albert in the Klein Karoo. At the booking we were told that there were only two chalets left as this resort is popular. The cost was quoted as R1300 per night for two people. The booking was handled by the resort efficiently. Upon arrival and registration we were allocated a chalet, and were pleasantly surprised to be given a discount for the night which dropped the cost to R780.00.
The chalets are old, having been built in the 60's? but have been tastefully modernized with tiled roofs, modern tiles and granite work tops. We found our unit clean and well appointed. The units are self catering but there are facilities on the site re restaurant and shop etc. indeed outside the resort there is a supermarket on the doorstep. Being overnight guests did not give us great opportunity to use the facilities but there is a huge pool, go-carting etc. All facilities gave the appearance of being well maintained as were the grassed areas and flowerbeds. The chalets overlook the harbour of the resort in which there were several boats moored. There is a passenger vessel there for tours of the dam which is the largest in SA. The area is surrounded by hills which make for a picturesque setting. The resort is clearly set up for families with lots of facilities. We left the following morning having enjoyed our short stay.

Dear dave b,

It is great hearing your feedback. Thank you for the review.
The area is as described in your mail currently extremely beautiful with the wonderful rain we had and I truly wish you could have spent more time here at Gariep.

We do hope to see you again in your future travels and once again thanks for the review.

We visited the resort this past weekend and our first evening (Friday) was lovely. The 6 sleeper chalet was well equipped and neat.

Saturday however people arrived at the two chalets opposite us. From the moment they got there, the noise levels shot through the roof. People were pouring out the houses (which I assume was only meant to house 4 people each), they were clearly related or friends. Music was blaring the whole afternoon, until we could not stand it anymore and called security. The music stopped for about 10 minutes.

By the evening 11pm, I saw that security made another visit, but by this time the people were clearly intoxicated and did nothing to tone the noise down. It carried on for most of the night and the weekend we were looking forward to for so long was ruined.

It was not cheap accommodation and it was unacceptable that security did so little to the culprits and allowed other paying guests to be inconvenienced in this manner.

I will definitely not recommend this resort to anyone, which is a pity. If security enforced any rules, this could have been a fantastic resort. If you want peace and quiet, rather give this a miss.

Hi BooTaz,

Thank you for making time to review our Resort.
It is such a inconvenience when people do not take others into consideration.
We do our best to control noise and will take up the matter with our outsourced security company.
I do hope you return for a more peaceful stay in future.

Regards,
Adriaan
