Our bad experience begun as soon as we pulled up to the restaurant to have our car parked by valet. Three parking attendants were sitting outside watching us get out of our car but did not move until we asked them if they will park the car. Their response while still sitting down was “you have to pull into the valet line”. By the way, their valet sign is a tiny one foot sign sitting way on the bottom of a small stand, almost touching the pavement with an arrow pointing to the valet area, as if a driver is supposed to be able to see that. Managements explanation is “they are a 3rd party company not associated with restaurant”. Ding ding ding..., it’s your restaurant’s customers that are getting affected by this first impression!!
We are asked to wait at the bar while we wait for the rest of our party to arrive, they only seat us if we are all together.
Three other customers are sitting at the bar and two bartenders standing in the corner chatting and even though they made eye contact with us, it took them ten minutes to come over, but the only thing they left us was a menu of their specialty drinks and without saying a single word, (I was expecting at least a welcome to Son Cubanos, or hello folks) the two bartenders resumed their discussion and only walked over to us upon my request. — second chance blown to make a good impression—
Finally, we are seated. The table is great, giving us breathtaking views of NYC. The server came right away, introducing herself, leaving menus and asking if we wanted tap or bottled water. Then she left for a while. After fifteen minutes we order our drinks and a bottle of wine, which after an additional ten minutes, the manager walks over to announce they are out of that wine- it happens, I suppose-
In any event, we get a chance to ask our guestions about the menu and place our orders. The food finally arrives but the server and her “team” haven’t the slightest clue who gets what. I hope whoever is reading this is not already smirking because it gets better. I waited a whole week to calm down before I write this review but I’m still boiling inside.
My branzino (2 little pieces) arrived swimming in a bed of clams and mussels in red sauce, strange, but what the heck, give the place a chance, this is how they prepare it, I just wished their menu described it that way. Their specialty steaks arrived, and without exaggeration, they couldn’t be more than a 1/4 inch thick. I hope you spare me the agony of telling you how the food was. I will however let you know that it was expensive!
By the way, one of our friends was celebrating a birthday, they brought out a piece of cake with a candle, but that cost us an additional $12.
We had not asked for the bill yet but it arrived nonetheless with the tips included, I thought that it would have been a nice gesture if the server told us that she included the tip, but maybe they don’t do that in this country.
Do me the favor, skip this restaurant, save your money but still visit the area to take in the beautiful views, it’s worth it!
