“Characterful, friendly and comfortable”
Reviewed 6 September 2017 for a stay in July 2017

An ideal getaway for the two of us, Carol and Rob were extremely welcoming and helpful and the gite was charming and comfortable. It was well appointed and quiet, everything we needed.

“Comfortable Accomodation 30 minutes from Luchon”
Reviewed 14 September 2016 for a stay in September 2016

Having stayed in a variety of hotels and B&Bs during a 3 week cycling trip, it was great to self cater for our last few days. Carol and Rob have clearly spent a great deal of time fitting out the hayloft and it was very spacious ( but still affordable ) for the 2 of us. Carol was kind enough to do a load of washing for us - very necessary for cyclists - and the kitchen facilities did the trick . Soap in the bathroom would have been nice when we needed it on a Sunday - all supermarkets closed - but was readily supplied gratis when requested.

“Warm welcome.”
Reviewed 11 March 2014 for a stay in March 2014

This is our second stay at this Gite and as the weather was nice and sunny, we were able to venture out more and took a walk up the nearby "Le Mourtis" where the ski resort was still in full swing. The scenery was breathtaking, the facilities were above par and the whole area is well worth a visit.
The Gite owners were very helpful and were able to provide some information on places to go but the website for the Gite has all the local information required. We will going back for another visit later in the year and have already provisionally booked for the early autumn.

“Wonderful holidays, worth coming back”

First, I can confirm all the good things previous commenters mentioned: excellent location, very nice and helpful hosts, conveniently located near the highway, near ski resorts, on the Tour de France route most years...), very comfortable... Just one correction: I would suggest Blindwookie to try the 3rd gear: Spain is 15 minutes away, the supermarket barely 10, not 20 and 15. I'll try to underline some aspects that I didn't see much in previous reviews.
First, if you look for something authentic, look no more, this gite is for you. The hosts turned and old barn into 2 superb, modern gites with all the comfort you need. To me, it's really the authenticity of the gite that makes it so special and more attractive than the others. Not just the apparent beams, the whole history of the place.
Anyway... I was there twice, once in winter and once in summer, it was great both times (I hope to add a third visit next summer...). In winter you can ski in any of 4 resorts that are a short drive away, or you can even drive a bit more (an hour, maybe) and go to the best ski resort in the Pyrenees, Bakeira-Beret. Superbagnères, Mourtis and Peyragudes are enough for me. I particularly like Superbagnères because you don't need to drive up the mountain road to get there, you just drive to the small town of Luchon, park for free and take the gondola lift ("eggs"). Even better, if someone in your family doesn't like to ski, they can just enjoy the amazing view up there, then take the gondola lift back down and enjoy a day in Luchon, which has a spa (hot springs already used by Roman soldiers) and nice restaurants.
Apart from that, the region has a very rich history and prehistory. The Saint-Bertrand de Comminges (20 minutes drive) is on the UNESCO world heritage list, and it's a must-see.
The painted cave of Gargas (also 20 minutes drive) is much older than the more famous Lascaux cave, and quite impressive (most prehistoric "negative hands" paintings known in the world are there). There is much more to see: among others if you visit this part of France you kind of have to see Toulouse! (1 hour drive, all highway) There's way too much to see in Toulouse for one day, which is one of the reasons to come back to the gite. Then Pau is a nice little city too. Next time I guess I'll visit Tarbes (less than an hour away, mostly highway). Or maybe the Vall the Boi churches, also UNESCO heritage, accross the border (40 minute drive according to google maps), I'm curious about those. And if it's finally built next time I'm there, I'll visit the Aurignac prehistory museum. A vast era of European prehistory (about 10000 years) is named Aurignacien after the cave of the nearby village of Aurignac (less than an hour drive). That should be worth a visit (under construction since 2012).
If you're bored by all those cultural visits, there are many outdoor activities available all around the gites (most of them 5-10 minutes away): tennis, kayak / rafting, golf, horse-riding (very nice enjoying the view of the Pyrenees while sitting on their back, even if it's your first time on a horse), road cycling (but it's a lot of ups and downs, that's the point!), rock climbing, mountain bike, hiking... You can even try paragliding (with an instructor), or a flight on a glider. You can even rent a small plane in Luchon to enjoy the view of the Pyrenees from up there if you have a license. I'm probably forgetting some, the area is a very, very nice playground.

Generous hosts, fantastic views and location, what more could you want. Sit and take in the scenery or tire yourself out in the mountains, or like me go fishing in the Garonne, nearby Luchon spa is also a relaxing alternative.
